Democrats are stupid to realize that redistricting will just cause capital flight out of the areas that turn blue. It's hilarious watching these people squirm over human behavioural changes to changes in government.

So the GOP gerrymandered these districts on purpose, to give the Democrats their own district to shut them up?

Have you ever worked in a state legislature? I have. The answer to your question is “yes, but not to shut them up.”. You do it to remove opposition voters from surrounding Districts.

And the reason i frame this is because you are quick to defend the Dems at every turn. Historically, this is your MO on this board. If you were another poster, i'd phrase the question differently.

I mean seriously, is it just coincidence that the most gerrymandered districts are Democrat?

Of course not. Most of them are “minority opportunity districts.”. It is simple demographics.

But some were created by Dem legislatures and some by GOP legislatures, for VASTLY different reasons.

Stop acting like a blind partisan and actually do some objective analysis.

Those two districts in NC are horrendous.

The Dems got all up in arms in these parts because the district that includes Asheville was redrawn after the last election.

The only people that win these damn fights are the attorneys for both sides.

Explain that. That it is "simple demographics".

Explain that.
Minorities are ... wait for it ... in the minority. Outside the central cities, it is hard to find 750M of them living in a closely-contiguous area. Thus, when you are trying to create a “minority opportunity District” (for either of the reasons outlined above) it is more likely that you must create Districts in odd and tortured shapes.

When Dems are creating a GOP district (to protect surrounding Dem Districts) they need not work NEARLY as hard to find contiguous territory, So the shapes of the districts do not look nearly as odd.

You really should do some reading on this topic.

The fact that six of the 10 above-referenced “worst-gerrymandered” districts are located in Red-controlled state simply demonstrates you don’t understand this issue very well.

So by simple demographics, what you mean to say is, hand picked, or "gerry mandered" areas to encapsulate a Democrat vote, correct?

And exactly, why doesn't the GOP have to work so hard to gerry mander? Is it because, they can rely on common sense districting to get a true representation of the area?

Gerrymandering is a bipartisan problem.

I'd suggest it is a political process and not a problem at all. If R owns the executive and legislature in a state after the census, then they get to redistrict. The Supreme Court ruled recently they want to stay out of this State process. As I've said when it comes to the state after the census, to the winner go the spoils. You think Obama wants it to be fair? I wonder why GW Bush doesn't lift a finger to help his side. At least one can say Obama is motivated.

The difference is the GOP gerrymanders to silence minorities. Democrats gerrymander to empower minorities. That’s how the left sees it.
