The loss is that you are spending time on a kid that may not be realistic. That time, energy, and resources could be better spent on a more realistic option.

Making the offer is one thing. Devoting valuable resources is another. I don't think anybody knows how invested the coaches are at this point with him.

"LSU should be out there offering the best tackles in the country!!!"

LSU offers one of the best tackles in the country

"Man why is LSU wasting their time and resources!!!!"

Think this has anything to do w/ the staff feeling less confident with Marcus?

I think what it has to do with is LSU trying to get a very good tackle recruit in this class, and probably more than just one. With question marks surrounding Courtland Ford and LSU backing off him, I'm sure they want to replace that spot with another very good OT. Since LSU backed off Ford he has dropped to a 3 star on 247. Not relevant, just odd. But I'm sure if he recovers from his injury well and plays accordingly his senior season LSU may reoffer him. But this Gentry thing has nothing to do with Dumervil.

Colorado Mormons are not as devout as Utah Mormons. Kind of like Catholics here are more relaxed. My first BJ was from a Mormon girl, so maybe it might help us.

Why did it take us so long to offer the top prospect in Colorado?

Who knows. Maybe they had others higher on their list. It's really a no win from the perspective of some people. I mean, if LSU offers people are not pleased, if they don't offer, people are not pleased. I don't think O and staff check out these recruiting services when they recruit players, so I doubt they even knew this kid was the highest rated recruit in Colorado. But it's a no win situation. And there are some that really don't want LSU to be successful. I mean, hell, apparently there's a few LSU fans that find LSU building a dominate oline is a negative. Or maybe they are not really LSU fans, maybe they are bama fans in disguise. There are always wolves in sheep's clothing. Or maybe they are little kids trying to get some attention and have found negative attention is better than none. It all goes back to the parents and such. You know, being ignored by mom and dad until you do something bad kinda mentality. Yes, it is sad, but they are out there.

You pretty much answered your own question:). But then again there are those who THINK they are real fans but have serious malfunctioning within the synapses of their pea brains.

I just don't see him passing up on the Mormon mission he's required to take. I could be wrong, but from what I've heard of them, that mission is very important to Mormonism and a right of passage for the men. Guess we'll see what happens, but for now I'm not buying the stock.

I guess the transfer portal is a worry, but the advantage is having a 20 year old true freshman monster of an ot signed to stay until they are 23-25. Investment for the future.

The big problem is you never know how these guys will return off a 2 year mission. They arent practicing, are they staying in shape/working out? A lot can change in 2 years totally away from the sport, it's a gamble.

I'm curious how NCAA offer/schollie rules work with this.

A NLI has to be accompanied by financial aid papers. They are for one year, renewable each year, and from what I understand only can be offered for that NCAA academic year.

So how do you officially sign a recruit who will not be enrolling in that class/year? From outward appearances it seems any NLI (and accompanying FA) would be void because of non-enrollment.

I'm thinking it's just a verbal commitment until he can return from mission, sign, and enroll.

You have to be at least 19 to go on a mission, so usually they attend school their freshman year before going. The two year mission doesn't count against their eligibility clock.
