What kind of physician is she? I grew up in LA and went to LSU. Traveled all over the US for work. We live in Greenville SC now and it’s amazing. My wife is a dr (no pics) and the med field here is booming and pays very well. Tons of industry as well. Real estate is high but that’s a price we are willing to pay to be here. See if she can reach out to GHS/PRISMA (hospital group my wife works for) or Bon Secours.

TLDR
get the frick out of that state. The rest of the country and left LA, AL, MS in the dust.

Sorry your right. It’s it New Orleans not Metairie and it is a 2nd tier. Which is crazy considering how much it cost.

Honestly asking- what’s the best girls school in New Orleans? I’d like to look up their cost.

All suburbs are generic to a degree which is my point. If you’re going to live in a suburb, why do it in the 50th ranked state?

Live In a suburb in a good state.

Louisiana's shittiness really gets magnified if you go to places with really good public schools, public transit, etc.

There are still some nice areas in N Louisiana-Ruston comes to mind.
That’s honestly not that nice either. It’s very Bible Belt. I was out on Ruston when I went to a Gas station to buy a 6 pack of beer for the saints game and there was chains on the beer cooler. I don’t understand why someone believes they can tell me when I can spend my disposal income on a legal luxury.

Extremely nice people and beautiful are though. West Monroe was also nice but Monroe was shite.

The root of our problems boil down to the state constitution. We have $30 billion dollars in our budget, yet $27 billion of that is constitutionally protected and earmarked by amendments, so we only have $3 billion to work with to balance the budget. The ONLY things that are allowed to be cut to balance the budget are education and healthcare. Every Louisiana voter, Democrat, republican and independent should all be voting on this one issue more than anything else for the future of our state.

All girls...Sacred Heart or McGehee. My kid goes to ASH. Whole shootin match is about $20k per year.

A lot of the gambling issues are idiots who want to project their religious views on people.
Fake narrative. Mississippi and West Virginia are extremely conservative in their religious views but pushed it through.

Truth of the matter- you have one guy that owns roughly 70% of the states video lotto machines. He made a call and our politicians were going to make it legal to place sports bets anywhere there’s a video lotto machine.

The casinos then refused to pay for regulation and infrastructure and the deal fell apart. That’s what’s happening.

Reading this thread I’ve seen several examples of “I didn’t realize how bad it was until I left.”

That’s it in a nutshell. You live around idiots and trash and crime your entire life you don’t know any better.

Then you go somewhere that’s functional and realize life shouldn’t be that way.

Schools SHOULD be good. Roads SHOULD be driveable. It is NOT normal for low wage workers to not speak intelligible English.

I always chuckle about people talking about Mexicans and Spanish speakers in Texas. Most immigrants here speak better English than those inner New Orleans.

This isn’t directed specifically at you, OP. I never judge people for leaving Louisiana for greener pastures, but I do roll my eyes when they make excuses for the new place that they go to.

For instance, Huntsville’s public schools are meh. OP will be in Madison (which is fine) and AL’s state government is just as inept as LA.

My wife just said you were right on Sacred Heart. You’ll have to forgive me, I grew up in a trailer in North Louisiana and went to a public school with 30 people. Thank you for the education sir that drives home the point a bit better.

For the sake of comparison with boys do you know the rough cost of say Newman or Jesuit?

Have they finished that never ending bull shite I-85 construction yet? Been through there round trip 15+ times the last years and it sucks. Left LA in 1989, lived in TX and GA, political corruption and shitty roads are everywhere, as is mediocre health care. Code orange air quality alert yet again today. City of ATL and Hartsfield-chronic corruption, no integrated future traffic plan for 6M people in metro ATL, water war ongoing since 1992 with FL/AL, $100M pissed away on legal fees, etc. Life is what you make of it, weather alone would keep me out of LA.

.I still have lots of family / friends in New Orleans and Louisiana. I'll visit once or twice a year and one pattern has become very apparent. There's always an initial rush when I get back, which slowly gives way to me looking around and going, "yeah...this is why I left." Each time that I visit, the elapsed time between the two gets shorter and shorter.

I think your post pretty much nails all us Louisiana born and raised people that have left the state because opportunity outside the state was just too good.

Have you considered living on the northshore and not in lakeview/metairie?
We’ve contemplated that move but neither of us wants to commute 2+ hours a day. Add in time to take the kiddos to daycare and it’s just not feasible.
