it really is sad. I grew up in LA and its a very special place, but every time me and my family go back to visit its the little things that stand out.

the litter, the roads, hell- every single meal we ate we had horrible service and the people didnt give two shits. Even the people that would check us out at the grocery store. Its like the quality of people in the blue collar jobs are borderline special needs.

Sad

I'll repeat what I posted a few months back...I still have lots of family / friends in New Orleans and Louisiana. I'll visit once or twice a year and one pattern has become very apparent. There's always an initial rush when I get back, which slowly gives way to me looking around and going, "yeah...this is why I left." Each time that I visit, the elapsed time between the two gets shorter and shorter.

I doubt I can get out, but next week my daughter is moving 1000 miles away to go to college.

I miss her already, but I'm so happy for her to exiting this state.

My twins left last year for out of state colleges and it was sad but the best for them. My daughter was valedictorian of her school and got a better scholarship offer than LSU provided. I guess F King is more concerned with letting in folks with lower ACT scores to the state's flagship university than he is with keeping the state's best and brightest. My son is attending a private University surrounded by what is supposed to be the worst neighborhood in California and I feel safer there than driving through Central City in New Orleans.

Have you been to central city lately? It’s gentrifying.

Sad part is, if she was from out of state, LSU would have thrown money at her.

I get it brother. I lived in Louisiana for 25 years. Moved back to my home in Kentucky and I love being home. Baby momma is from Pine Prairie and I paid for her education and now she's a funeral director in Arkansas. Still don't allow my 10 year old in public school because it's no better in Arkansas than Louisiana. She's in a private Christian school outside of Little Rock 6k a year. Man I miss my friends and food though. I will always love Louisiana.

Yeah...Hoffman Triangle is practically the Garden District. And there hasn't been a daytime shooting in front of the Jazz Daiquri/Chicken and Watermelon place on Claiborne for at least a week.

As far as oil and gas companies, they flew the coop in the eighties. Personally I think every dang energy company should have a presence in New Orleans being this was the hub and the amount of natural resources we have sacrificed Demands that we be respected and because these companies should be good corporate citizens. And New Orleans is way better than Houston to live in

First, punctuation is your friend.

Second, the oil and gas companies can and will do whatever the frick they want and damn whatever history they have.

Third, Houston is the energy capital of the world. Why the frick would an energy company have anything to do with New Orleans when 6 hours by car away is a bigger, better city with infrastructure everywhere and a global presence in the industry? O, and a population that itself is the size of all of Louisiana, so the workforce is statistically going to be easier to come by. And cost of living is basically the same except your employees can send their kids to public school.

Fourth, New Orleans is not better to live in than Houston. This may be the most asinine statement you made. The only reason I'd leave Houston is the same reason I would move out of anywhere in the South that wasn't on the beach: the topography and weather sucks.

Welcome to the club.

I gave up 15 years ago and it's only gotten worse.

Imagine if I had wasted those 15 years trying to make shite better.

Yet another reason I have checked out.

That was not the case 15 years ago. I got a full ride to LSU from out of state. But my GPA was a 4.44 and my ACT was a 32. I needed at least a 30 to get the scholarship. I knew people who were on full rides to LSU with TOPS who had 3 something GPAs and ACTs in the 20s. Pissed me the frick off, honestly. But my in state school was only gonna throw out like 2 grand to me.

I’m currently building a house on the westbank in Belle Chasse. I don’t want to if there because of the crime and lack of educational opportunity. Nothing against anyone who stays it’s just incredibly disappointing to me how bad my home is.

I truly wish it wasn’t but I’ve faced realisty.

We’re missing out on what is estimated to be a 200 million dollar a year industry with sports betting because our politicians are being controlled by a guy who owns fricking video lotto machines. We’re not even allowed to vote on it. It really wouldn’t matter though, 47 parishes voted to allow fantasy football in their parish but guess what our government couldn’t come up with a tax rate and regulation. Literally every other state can, but we can’t.

This is the shite that pisses me off, we have ways of increasing tax revenue, but because the video poker lobby or the bar owner lobby can't get their share of the pie they throw a wrench in the gears and shut it down. Legalize gambling, legalize weed, move the frick on. But that leads to the second problem, tax revenue being diverted to bullshite programs, or siphoned off by crooked politicians or shady contractors. Zero true leadership, and looks like our Rep. candidates for governor are both "Christian conservatives". Go to their websites, zero mention of any ideas or plans besides the usual drivel. It's so bad moving to Mississippi looks like a good idea.

Yea, I really don’t get it when people say how friendly the people in La are. I’ve lived all over the US and people in Louisiana are along the rudest. The service-industry workers absolutely don’t give a shite about servicing you and old crabby Lafayette Cajun women are among the rudest people I’ve ever come across... talk about entitlement

It's the case now.

LSU barely gives scholarships to high performing in state kids because TOPS takes care of it. They take that $$$ to bring in "the best and the brightest" from out of state.

It's infuriating.

My son graduated with honors from a damned good school with a 4.0 (4.28 weighted), 32 on ACT (36 in English), over 50 hours of college credit with AP, Spring Testing and because of his English score, and got a total of $4K on top of TOPS from LSU (and $1500 of that is a student job).
