I'm a guy, I have nothing to be jealous about. Let's not act like the Old Metairie elite are driving right by Country Day to go to Dominican.

For the sake of comparison with boys do you know the rough cost of say Newman or Jesuit?

THINK Jesuit is about $10k, closer to Dominican prices. Newman is low $20s if I’m remembering correctly. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I spent more time this spring/summer in Nola than I had in a decade.

Two undeniable things:

Food is great. I don’t get the bad service comments. Never experienced that.

Everything else is a giant shitshow. Stupid arse people left and right even in the suburbs. Very hard to get basic business done because people are so incompetent and or just stupid.

Truth of the matter- you have one guy that owns roughly 70% of the states video lotto machines.
it's video poker machines. He also happens to own the newspapers, which is why you don't hear that much about it.

So say you make six figures and have two kids. You have to shell out 20% if your salary for education while still paying state income tax and having to deal with crime, flooding, cultcha, bad hospitals, insane real estate prices, bad roads, astronomical insurance rates, crazy utility prices, and on and on.

What kind of physician is she? I grew up in LA and went to LSU. Traveled all over the US for work. We live in Greenville SC now and it’s amazing. My wife is a dr (no pics) and the med field here is booming and pays very well. Tons of industry as well. Real estate is high but that’s a price we are willing to pay to be here. See if she can reach out to GHS/PRISMA (hospital group my wife works for) or Bon Secours.
Gen Peds but she wants a Newborn Nursery position ideally. That’s why we were open to the headhunter, the job in NC is exactly what she wants.

That actually works in our favor as I’m a residential builder so an area that’s up and coming would be a great opportunity for me to actually start my own company. I’ve saved the past few years and my portfolio is now at a point that I can point to some smaller 160k-240k homes I’ve Built that are extremely nice homes to custom 1.1- 1.8 million dollar homes that I’ve done in Audubon, the garden district and Old Metairie.

Our plan now is to move to a nice area and build a larger custom home and if we can’t sell it in 6 months to simply move in but I spoke with several realtors in NC when we were there and when I showed them plans and potential cost/locations all were extremely confident that the home would sell before completion.

We wanted to get into commercial real estate but with e-commerce growth we’re not sure that the safest route.

Have you considered living on the northshore and not in lakeview/metairie?

outside of having a lot that is slightly bigger, and home values being slightly less, I can't really think of any redeemable qualities that the northshore has over Lakeview, Ole Metairie or Metairie north of W Esplanade

You are describing living in New Orleans, not Louisiana or even the NOLA Metro area. Just New Orleans

I'm a Louisiana native and lifelong resident, other than a few extended temporary out of state or oconus assignments with my work. Roots and strong ties always kept me in Louisiana.

I have no children left at home, and recently pulled the trigger and got the hell out. The only regret I have is not doing it 25 years ago.

My income and quality of life as a whole have greatly improved. It is an easy drive to go back and visit from the greater Houston area, but I will never live there again. Life is good.

the job in NC
wife and I love NOVA but the COL is so high and we both work in DC so we don't want to move further out and commute in especially with a baby on the way.

We're working on moving to NC at the moment. Good mix of business development and economic growth, not as crazy as the I-95 corridor when it comes to population/traffic, still affordable, etc.

Louisiana’s definitely got problems but I like it. My job allows me to live anywhere and the family/friends angle is one that i’ll probably never break.

Lmao that you don’t have to deal with attitude related to cultcha. You never go to any stores? Don’t act like Metairie isn’t full of low wage workers with terrible attitudes.

And your house may not flood but the rest of the city does. Bad hospitals yes. Ocshner sucks. East Jeff May be marginally better. And schools...

At best Metairie is a mediocre suburb in the 50 th ranked state. Food is great though.

Oh yeah and real estate. You get garbage in Metairie compared to other places. I lold when I saw what $500k buys back home.

Left in 2003...19 years was enough.. there's plenty better places to live. For Louisiana it will again be the motto, "will the last person leaving turn out the lights". Pride for where one lives only goes so far... reality always makes you come back down to the ground.

I know it's hard to believe, but some places demand more out of their employees, and lets not act like most shopping these days is either going to be self checkout or dropped off on my front porch

there are some flood prone areas. I don't have to deal with them. Flooding in Mid City or uptown or in the ghetto really have no effect on my life

there are good doctors at Ocshner, Lakeside and East Jeff. If I need a specialist, I can find a good one.

the public school system sucks in Louisiana, there is no way around that. My kids go to a private school, but that would be the case anywhere in Louisiana with the exception of maybe Zachary

I could make the argument that its the best suburb in the 49th ranked state.
