If you really want the roots of our states economic problems the Long’s and Judge Perez screwed up our oil royalty agreements in the 50’s that have cost our state 100’s of billions of dollars.

I left BR very reluctantly, but until I did, I didn’t know how bad things there were there compared to my new state.
I miss friends, the food and BR water, but on balance, getting out when I did was the best thing for my family.

Holy shite some of you guys are so dramatic about where you choose to live.

At the end of the day if family and friends aren’t enough to keep you around, go ahead and leave. There are a lot of forces going against LA in terms of desirability to live that aren’t exactly new. Part of what enables capitalism to be great is that there are winners and losers and unfortunately LA is a loser, which perpetuates itself.

Jesus. That's how Mizzou was. I was told that scholarship opportunities would come around once I enrolled.

Uh huh. Sure, counselor. Whatever you say. I'm a goddamn National Merit Scholar. Do I look like I'm that stupid to you?

So I get it. It's bullshite. And it's sad to see LSU continue to plummet down the rankings list.

Louisiana is undeniably terrible. The only people that argue in Louisiana’s favor are the ones that just don’t see a way to leave, or too scared to leave.

I would love nothing more than to raise my children in the state I loved, but the Louisiana I grew up in is long gone.

Born in NO. The term shithole is actually a compliment when referring to Nawlins and most of S Louisiana. There are still some nice areas in N Louisiana-Ruston comes to mind.

A lot of the gambling issues are idiots who want to project their religious views on people.

Dominican is also more middle and upper middle class than upper class.

The upper class schools for girls are Sacred Heart and McGehee as well as the coed Newman which are all over 20k a year.

I’m curious what you mean by fake? Wasn’t sure if that was a typo.

I moved back to east Texas so I can be closer to my daughter. I’d love to stay in LA where my family is but I need to be close to my kiddo.

Leave and never look back.

When you get ridicule from people on here about leaving they fall into two buckets:

1. The diehards. They second line every parade, never miss jazz fest, eat crawfish every fricking day from January to June, have saints and lsu season tickets and couldn’t live without going to tips 50 times a year and spend every other weekend in the gulf fishing.

More power to those people. It’s not for me.

2. The ignorant and possibly jealous haters who have never traveled beyond the occasional Destin/Gulf Shores/Disney trip. They mostly hate on the unfamiliar and will tell you that if you go to Texas you’ll be in “North Mexico” and if you travel to London you’re going to get stabbed my a filthy mooslem.

They use words like libtard and think California is the worst place on earth when more than likely they’ve never been.

These individuals’ worldviews are small and formed by talking points on talk radio and are generally fear based.

Then there are the sane rational people who actually acknowledge the region’s problems, but take it i stride because of family obligations or otherwise.

Bottom line is it’s not Jon Bel Edwards or Bobby Jindal or whatever moron is elected next. This is not a recent phenomenon. The state has been in decline 30+ years at least and there is no end in sight.

Call me a quitter but I gave up on it long ago. Like the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Kashmir, Shia vs Sunni, this is too far gone to fix. Cultcha is a big reason and it will take generations to fix once the solution is even found. You only live once. I’m not wasting my life in a third world dump because it has good food when I have the means to live elsewhere.

It’s amazing how happy you’ll be when you don’t have to deal and associate with slimy pieces of shite on a daily basis.

And lastly, move somewhere that has better weather, doesn’t flood every other week and isn’t constantly under threat of a hurricane wiping it out for good.

I live in the Texas Hill Country. Grew up in Metairie. North Shore to me is better than the city but if I’m going to live in a crowded generic suburb, I might as well move to a better state.

The North Shore gives you just a few of the benefits of living in Louisiana with few of the pros (economy, weather, beauty) of other places.
