When your chief executive is a trial lawyer who’s general directive is to enrich the trial lawyer class by suing the ONLY industry we have, well it’s just not the best plan honestly.

My good lord at the difference in infrastructure, cleanliness, real estate market, education, crime rates and long term economic growth and stability. Our family is the only thing that’s the positive for this state and it doesn’t look Ike it’s going to be enough.
Family and Friends usually are the only thing that keep people from leaving La. but once you leave the state and point out the things you mentioned above: infrastructure, education, health care then its a no brainer.

Let this sink in...politics in Las Vegas is best known for the insipid mess that was Harry Reid and for the fact that the city's last 2 Mayors have been...a former mob lawyer, then his wife. Yet, folks HERE are laughing at how corrupt and incompetent politicians in Louisiana and New Orleans are.

I don’t understand why people ask these questions. We all know the answer to what sucks about our state. Guess what.....it’s the same thing that sucks about Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama etc.

The biggest problem is not the elected officials here but the mind numbed zombies who keep voting them in.
There are actually people here whose IQ is so low that they will claim Edwin Edwards did amazing things for the state.
Our plaintiff attorneys are just like many of these lobotomized voters. They work the system rather than simply working. They leech off and destroy the work product of others with zero concern of what it does to the state.

The state should have fought harder to keep places like the Avondale Shipyard open. Thousands upon thousands of good paying blue-collar jobs lost. Like someone said earlier, the political corruption in the state is so deep, it may be impossible to uproot it. Let’s just hope someone like Rispone or Abe can try to fix it.

Everything you said is correct. La is a shithole in comparison to just about anywhere else. Go now. If it doesn’t work out you can always come back.
I have maybe three regrets in life. One is not moving years ago when I had the opportunity. It’s not that my decision was wrong. It’s that I’ll never know what could- or could not- have been. Now I’m stuck here till I retire and can roll out.
I hate to give up on the state, but Louisiana is like a drug addict that doesn’t want to get clean. Sometimes you just have to write things off.

Hit the road, Jack.
And don’t ya come back no more.
I left and went somewhere better. Especially in New Orleans, I was just expected to make money, pay taxes, and shut the hell up that most of my money went to bullshite. I got my CPA, moved to Colorado, and now actually get stuff for my tax dollars.

1) Voters that are morons who embrace corruption.
2) Politicians that take advantage of #1.
3) Culture of expectations of free shite that "someone else" will pay for.

We moved back to Louisiana in 2002 and tried as much as we could to improve the community. Finally a couple of years ago we just could not do it anymore. We moved to Sarasota FL and have been in awe how great everything is here. The only thing we miss is family and LSU.

I always tell people I love that I’m from Louisiana but I’m glad I don’t live there anymore

it really is sad. I grew up in LA and its a very special place, but every time me and my family go back to visit its the little things that stand out.
the litter, the roads, hell- every single meal we ate we had horrible service and the people didnt give two shits. Even the people that would check us out at the grocery store. Its like the quality of people in the blue collar jobs are borderline special needs.
Sad

I doubt I can get out, but next week my daughter is moving 1000 miles away to go to college.
I miss her already, but I'm so happy for her to be exiting this state.
The mixture of the cultural environment, politics, lawyers, and maybe even the natural forces of nature are the doom of this thing we call our state. If someone ever needed a state as poster child for the for legal reform, surely there's no better than us.
It's very unfortunate.

If New Orleans made a gaming play like Vegas has over the years that would go a long way into masking its issues like it has in Vegas. They literally have enough money to pay off all the crooks and still keep the city from flooding when it sprinkles.
Not to mention any Tom, Dick, or Harry is walking down the street smoking weed legally over there and paying taxes on it.

I don’t think it can be fixed. Corruption is so deep and pervasive at every level, you can’t fix it. As well, we’ve come to accept and expect it. We’ve had lots of good politicians but they either get caught up with the corruption or run off.
That’s why I’m so pessimistic about the states future.

My wife and I did the same. I spent 7 years in BR getting an education. My wife is from Louisiana. We both wanted out when we got out of law school. The opportunities are not in Louisiana and it's far easier to pack your shite and go. Particularly when I have zero political aspirations and don't want to change things that way. I'm just a normal guy. I could make more money in Houston and prospects for my family were significantly better in Houston than anywhere in Louisiana.
It's kinda sad. Only reason I would move back is to be closer to my wife's family so they can help with my kids, but even they have dispersed and her parents are nearing retirement, so... frick it, I'll ride it out in Texas.
