Can you run 7mph for 29 minutes? If so, you are golden.

29 minutes is easy as hell as long as you aren't morbidly obese.

Running less than a 10 minute mile pace should be easily doable at any age unless you’re just obese.

UPDATE
Ran for the first time last night. Terrain was flat sidewalk ( race route will be closed off downtown streets). I was sucking wind after the first mile and somehow was able to make it to 1.5 before I had to stop. I was blazing for the first mile though, with my app telling me I was at a 9.30 pace. Surprisingly, I ran the .5 miles at just over 10 minutes. It felt much slower than a 10 minute pace, but this is my first time doing this, so what do I know. The second half was a disaster. I walked for about 5 minutes to regain my composure and did the rest in intervals. Jog 30 seconds, walk 30 seconds. Overall I went 2.7 miles in about 36 minutes. The soreness is kicking in this morning, especially in the upper thighs. Feels a little sweet actually. It feels like what I've imagined a period feels like.
I'll take it easy until Saturday and try to rest up. I ran about 2 hours after dinner and could definitely still feel the food on my stomach. I'm thinking about having a big carb filled lunch (based on what I read here and other sources) on Friday and then going on a 20 or so hour fast leading up to race time. (8am Saturday). Feeling a little bit lighter can't hurt the cause. I still plan on walking the route at some point on Friday just to familiarize myself with the area.
They say your biggest improvement when overcoming obstacles comes on the second attempt. I would be lying though if I said I'm feeling more confident after the test run. Maybe I'm neutral. Here's hoping passion, love, and an athletic drive propels me to victory on Saturday.

The lactic acid isn't done yet
You aren't going to be able to move tomorrow

I offered suggestions. You need to adhere to suggestions or all of this is futile. Your outlook is grim.

Umm, no. You're in trouble. Where are you located? The problem for experienced runners this time of year is the heat and humidity in the South. Perhaps you'll be more immune to it.
My advice is to use something to monitor your pace, an app, a Garmin GPS, so that you won't go blasting off trying to keep up with the runners in front of you. It still happens to most, so be careful.
You don't want to go out at a 8:00 pace for the first mile and by mile 3, you're clocking an 11:30 pace

Lol 29 minutes is slooooow.
Should have just said “I have two felonies and am behind on child support.”
Wouldve gotten you in the door without having to run

Birmingham. It's going to be hot, but with a start time of 8am, I'm not too worried about the temperature.
Do I need to buy running shorts? Current plan is to wear some basketball shorts that fall at the knee cap. Gotta look the part though!

Okay, here's what you really do. Get as many friends as you can do go to the race. If you can get like 5 friends to show up you just raised $200 for the object of your obsession's charity.Run the race as best you can. When your slow arse finally catches up to her at the finish after she's had 2 or 3 beers come clean. Tell her you've never run a day in your life but you wanted to impress her. She'll think it's adorable, yall will have a good laugh, and she'll give you all the sex you can handle.
This is solid info. OP should strongly consider doing this.

If I wasn't busy I ought to go up and watch.
Would become an OT legendary video.
Please tell me this race will not be hilly. I hope it's going on downtown where it's flat.
Hills are terrible for running.
Oh, and 8 AM is still hot enough. Just hope it's overcast

Yes, buy running shorts. You need to commit to the lie.

If you show up in basketball shorts, she and everyone there is going to know you're not running under 29. Might as well go to TJ Maxx and get some clearance 7" inseam running shorts.

Well yeah. That's to be expected. Throughout the bullshite posts in this thread, there were a few accurate posts telling you that it'd be hard to get off the couch and run a sub-30 5k.
29 minutes is a solid middle-of-the-pack time in a regular community 5k event.
