I’m sure this has been posed on here before but just for discussion. I understand the benefits of having a full 2 weeks to prepare for the biggest and most physical game of the year- but I wonder if 2 weeks gives the team too much time to overthink the matchup. Obviously the downside is less time for the players to heal and rest up.

I moved from BR but last year the hype leading up to the game was insane. No matter how much the players say they block out the noise, it’s an extra week of them having to think about the big game.

I guess it’s a pros/cons thing. But I just wonder if they approached it like any other game with just a regular one week before the game if they’d play differently.

I do think we have a good shot this year. More likely to beat them at Bama than at home imo. Less pressure and expectations.

Also I know Bama always has their bye before LSU too- but maybe giving Saban one less week to prepare would help us.

Has our bye week always been before Alabama? (As in pre-2000 and early 2000s)

frick. I’m just ready for the season to start.

I don't buy into the we don't need this to be a night game, or we don't need a bye week before theories. None of those are reasons we haven't beaten them. They have flat out been the better team. That needs to change.

Both teams will tell you its the most physical game they will play all year.

That’s fair. At the end of the day we just need to line up and beat them regardless of location, kickoff time, etc.

Not sure what point you are trying to make here. How would LSU have any control over Bama’s bye week?

Here's the deal. It's very unfortunate, but the extra week is put to better use by Alabama than it is by LSU. It's not LSU's fault. Saban is just scary good when he has extra time to prepare. I think he has only 5 losses at Alabama when having 2 or more weeks to prepare: 3 to LSU, 1 to Ohio State in the first playoff, and 1 to Utah in that long ago bowl game. Of course LSU has gotten the most chances.

Thus, I'm convinced that it matters not whether LSU moves it's bye or plays day games, etc. What LSU needs is for that game to be moved early enough in the season so that Saban won't want to waste his bye, i.e., last week of September. Then maybe we will have an even playing field.

We would have won if we had the bye week before Bama, but now we’ll probably lose.

In 2020, both bama and LSU will have byes the week before they play each other.

The two teams could have played in April and Alabama would have won. Quit trying to run from them. Alabama doesn't care if it's the third week or the tenth week, day or night, home or away. LSU fans need to quit being so scared and looking for some way out. If we had played them in week two at 11:00 a.m. last year, the result would have been the same.

I can't say that I'd agree in any other year. But damn it would have been nice to have played Ole Miss at Death Valley at night on Halloween this year.

How in your demented mind is wanting to play them sooner, "being so scared and looking for some way out"?

I

Saban 4-1
2000 - LSU bye before Alabama no bye before- won 30-28
2001 - LSU no bye before Alabama bye before- won 35-21
2002 - LSU no bye before Alabama no bye before- lost 31-0
2003 - LSU bye before Alabama no bye before- won 27-3
2004 - LSU bye before Alabama no bye before- won 26-10
Miles 5-6 (regular season)
2005 - LSU no bye before Alabama no bye before- won 16-13
2006 - LSU no bye before Alabama no bye before- won 28-14
2007 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- won 41-34
2008 - LSU no bye before Alabama no bye before- lost 27-21
2009 - LSU no bye before Alabama bye before- lost 24-15
2010 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- won 24-21
2011 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- won 9-6
2012 - LSU bye before Alabama no bye before- lost 21-17
2013 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- lost 38-17
2014 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- lost 20-13
2015 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- lost 30-16
Orgeron 0-3
2016 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- lost 10-0
2017 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- lost 24-10
2018 - LSU bye before Alabama bye before- lost 29-0

So Overall since 2000
LSU Bye- Bama Bye 3-6
LSU no Bye- Bama Bye 1-1
LSU Bye- Bama no Bye 3-1
LSU no Bye- Bama no Bye 2-2

LSU Bye 6-7
LSU no Bye 3-3

Kind of looks like the bye has had no real impact overall. Personally, I like it but I could see trying to schedule the bye the week after the Alabama game because it is such a physical game.

since 2007 when Saban took over Alabama (regular Season)

LSU Bye- Bama Bye 3-6
LSU no Bye- Bama Bye 0-1
LSU Bye- Bama no Bye 0-1
LSU no Bye- Bama no Bye 0-1

LSU Bye 3-7
LSU No Bye - 0-2

Not sure if we can say the bye helps but no bye definitely doesn't help vs Saban.

While that's true, I don't think it would hurt to break up the same old routine that LSU's been losing in for nearly ten years. Just shake it up a little and get a different perspective. I like that it's going to be played in the afternoon, although I really don't think bye-weeks have much influence on the outcome of individual games.

Players are creatures of habit so I prefer no bye.
