And thank the ghost of Charlie Mac we have Scott and not Joe Alleva running things.
Can you imagine Joe Alleva during the criticism of the new ops building? F King and co would have used it to leverage more money from the AD. And Joe would have gleefully obliged.

You think Woodward decided to do this based on the reaction to the locker room? Woodward didn't get to where he is by making decisions like this based on emotion. I think there a lot of discussions regarding this decision and it was probably made well before the lockerroom announcement.

I’ll wait and see what happens but I suspect what will happen is better PR when the headline reads “LSU Athletics donates XX million to build new library”. Probably also means if you dog the athletic department and TAF, expect fewer fund your way. As it should be.

I think the announcement was timed the way it was because of that. But no, the decision was made well before that.

At request of LSU Athletics, "misleading" headline has been changed to: "Woodward on fund-transfer policy: “We can not sustain what we’re currently doing"
sounds like they just want to end a mandated amount, not giving back to the school in general

With as slimy as F.King is I wouldn't be surprised if Woodward had informed him of this decision a few weeks ago and he underhandedly started a press campaign against TAF/Tiger Athletics to try and put pressure on Woodward.

Another PR blunder by LSU. I thought Alleva was the problem?

I mean, the Governor and legislature can easily take away any tax breaks that TAF gets and make it a straight business.
I appreciate Woodward's reasoning, but this is a dangerous game. No matter what fans want to think, just because the money is collected through the TAF outside of the university's control doesn't mean the University has no control.
We will see what happens though.
I am not saying what Woodward did is wrong or right. Just for some on here to act like he has all the power in the situation is a bit naive.

How would some of you feel if your donated money for Athletics was used for something other than your personal intentions?
BY LAW LSU cannot use 1 dollar of the taxpayers money for academics to pay for anything in athletics. So if this privately donated money for LSU Athletics is not used for what it was donated for then how would you feel when LSU contacted you again for money?
Using money for things other than what they are donated for is not a good policy. It never has been.

Excellent idea. Tell JBE and state legislators to get on this right away.
I, for one, am looking forward to the sitting governor once again demonizing LSU athletics for personal gain.

The only one being naive here is you. Do some research on Woodward. He'll work the legislature before JBE can get to his car from his bed in the morning. People don't really understand how connected he his in this state just yet. You will understand soon enough.................

This is a misstep from Woodward.
You’re reading the room wrong. He has the political capital to pull this off or he would have never announced it. He’s not Joe Alleva.

F King has gotten the message loud and clear. Either support LSU Athletics/Woodward or we’ll get rid of you.

It’s all fun and games until your favorite player is ruled academically ineligible

Woodward is more politically connected in Louisiana than F.King or John Bell can ever dream of.
it sounds intensely retarded to say that some guy who hasn't lived in the state for awhile is more politically connected than the fricking governor.

I wouldn't be shocked if the overall money that is available to transfer from the athletic side to the academic side doesn't change, but will be more tightly controlled and allocated on a merit based project by project allocation. It may add another layer of bureaucracy but the costs can better tracked.
For instance, an example in the thread was for new microscopes for the science department for 100K, a either someone from the department or an overall academic side liaison puts in the funding request from the money set aside by the athletic department. The athletic side can also earmark certain monies to go to capital projects like the library and reduce the money pool that it gives to the academic side.
It allows more visibility of the athletic money being given to the University.
