Can you provide a logical reason why someone should kill a cottonmouth or any snake found in the woods where snakes are supposed to live?

If an animal is attacking you? Kill with quickness.
If an animal is just doing animal things in an environment it is supposed to live in? Killing doesn’t make much sense to me
