And, for the rest of the thread, the way people act about snakes is ridiculous. I think it must be the same phenomenon as horror movies. People just like to be scared. If we admit that venomous snakes are extremely easy to avoid, are afraid of people, and just want to get away, it's no fun, apparently. So, we act like there was some sort of real danger, and that by killing one of them, we've somehow made the world a better place. Wheew, we're the hero that saved the kids! It's childish and laughable.

If I come across a cottonmouth on the way to my deer stand and I kill it. That is one less. One less that could bite me, my kids or anyone else. That is a very tiny possibility that it would happen, but it is possible none the less. It is not a phenomenon, it is not a situation where I am out of control or scared...no more than when I put my seatbelt on.
I think you are being overly dramatic to try to drive home your position, therefore you have become less effective. You have a position, you stated it, great.
Calling everyone that disagrees with you a child and laughingstocks is a terrible approach.

I honestly didn't think you would even close to agree with me on this 
I have walked miles and miles and miles outdoors without a snake bite, I understand the risk is really close to zero especially if I pay attention...but I will still kill them.

I usually just kick back my feet and enjoy the show in these threads. Seems like there’s very little middle ground. Either you’re completely ignorant and think every watersnake is a cotton mouth or you have to treat them like Hindu cows. I consider myself educated about snakes and won’t go out of my way to kill one that isn’t making itself a nuisance, but I also don’t weep for them any more than a coon or possum dead on the side of the road.

shite, I stepped on a baby cotton at Links on the side of #7 green. Thankfully, he was too short to reach my ankle. I could not swing for 3 holes. Kill 'em all!

I’d have a hard time killing a cottonmouth with a frisbee disc but I’d sure as hell try.

I know a lady that was bitten by a copper head a couple of weeks ago. First person I have ever actually known that was bitten by a poisonous snake.
Luckily only one fang got in her leg so the amount of venom in her was small. The hospital decided not to give her the anti venom. He lower leg did swell a lot and she said it was very painful. There was no permanent damage to her muscles. I think after 7 or 8 days the swelling started going down.

ehh, he's right though. killing a cotton in my yard or property with people/pets is different. out in the swamp they could of admired that snake and just kept on riding.

I’ve posted about it here a few times. This is one of the posts. I made me sick as hell but nothing life threatening.

He said I had crawled right on top of it. The hospital pumps me full of antibiotics but no anti-venom. Apparently the worst part of a cotton mouth bite is the bacteria the nasty bastards got living in there mouth. I got sick as hell and had one fatass arm for about a week
