re: Is having a bad temper an affliction or simply a lack of self control?

Better question: why do people who wear affliction normally have a bad temper?

I would like to think maturity has something to do with it but as I have gotten older my temper has not gotten better. I think it has more to do with how much you are dealing with when the shite hits the fan. If you are not dealing with a lot of stuff, you probably can handle more with less anger than if you are fully taxed when something goes down.

ive been thinking about this a lot as i am usually a concerning level of chill, but had to go absolutely scorched earth on my coworker last week. absolutely dog-cussed him for ten minutes. but if i hadn't done that i probably would have exploded in a worse way the next day.
funny thing is: he is the total hot-head. big angry bald fricker from MS. always road raging when we're in the field and arguing w fast food employees. talks to everyone totally wrong. so i guess that's what really makes me lose my temper... having to deal with other peoples tempers.

Having a bad temper and having a lack of self control are different things, with the latter taking it further. Some people say they have a bad temper to justify being a piece of shite.
I have intermittent explosive disorder. I am chilled out and relaxed 99% of the time. There is no build up of anger that gets me to a point. I go from 0 to 100 in a split second, and can't stop it from happening. Maybe half of the time I get super aggressive, and the other half, I am doing something physical. The only thing that has reduced it has been not hanging out with certain people, and not putting myself in certain situations.
I would say I lose self control in those situations, but I don't have a bad temper

Is it an affliction? I don’t know. But I do know that guys who wear affliction T-shirts have short tempers

I have had anger issues (nothing physical or violent) that just cost me my relationship with a woman I care very deeply for. Not the first time this has happened with someone, but finally the wake up call to fix it and not make excuses.
Sucks because I know the root cause, but haven’t taken the steps to properly work through it. I think a “bad temper” is one of those things you make excuses for until you lose something or something bad happens that makes you realize you have to take the steps to fix it.

“I’ve got a bad temper” can either be an honest admission of a personal fault or an excuse for not correcting a behavior. You have to look at the whole person

I have a pretty bad temper.
I have grown to control it as i have gotten older but in my teens and 20s, i punched lots of dudes in the mouth over nonsense

A lack of self confidence can allow a person to become angry over things that they perceive as a insult.
Know who we are and frick those who think otherwise.

“He who angers you, controls you”

Someone will claim it's a disease soon enough.

I Got very upset once and raised my voice.

People with bad tempers usually have poor impulse control in general.
Posted on 7/11/19 at 9:54 pm to Mike da Tigah
Poor social skills, inability to control emotion
Posted on 7/11/19 at 9:57 pm to Mike da Tigah
It's 100% just a lack of emotional maturity. But the root cause of that is complex. Sometimes you're just 4'11" and everyone picks on you

People with control issues usually have anger problems. It's just immaturity

I tend to “lose my shite” in private mostly like when I’m driving on interstate and some fricking idiot who doesn’t use their cruise control passes me, gets in my lane in front of me and slows down making me pass them, then does it two more times.
Usually when I get angry and “make a scene” is when someone does something to me and I feel wronged by it.
I used to be pretty passive when I was younger, but I don’t tolerate stupidity anymore.

It's a lack of self control.
And a lack of maturity, they go hand-in-hand

It might also be said that he who wants to control you and situations, uses anger to do so.
I’ve known people who rant and lose their shite to get their way, and get worse, not better, over time as it’s enabling them I believe, because when they lose their shite they get their way with people who don’t want to deal with their shite, so in their mind, they win when they behave like that.
