I feel like I made a beta move today

Was playing golf with a buddy at a country club as a guest and hooked a shot (because I straight up suck at golf). The ball appeared to go behind a house. I was willing to take the penalty and move on because it really doesn’t matter at my skill level.
My buddy tells me not to worry about it and goes after the ball. I’m standing there with my thumb up my arse and about 6 minutes later he makes his way back Red-faced telling me how some guy who was house sitting for his sister came out and started yelling at HIM for stealing his ball.
I honestly thought it was funny but at the same time didn’t want to cause any trouble being a guest, so I took out a couple of balls and asked my buddy to replace the one we took just in case
The problem is I feel like, while it was a nice gesture, it makes me a beta.
Should I go back and shite in his yard to make amends?

So a guy that is house sitting considers the balls that go into the backyard of a house that he doesnt own to be his?

If it were me, I would have asked the guy in the house to give me a tour of the property. Then, when out of view of other residents, I would have had forcible anal sex with him, given him a humiliating cum facial, and then bought my wife Vanessa a $10M diamond ring.

Nah he claimed the ball was there previously and was his (and that my buddy was mistaken)
