Tell me your experiences with this 4wheeler. For me it will be used to get around the farm and to get around the hunting lease. Should I stay away from this particular model or is this a can’t miss? What do you guys/gals think?

I have one and it’s great. Dependable workhorse for the things you mentioned.

Bought one for rural Alaska because it is so dependable. About to buy a couple more through work for the same reason.

I own 2 of them and love them. Had a Polaris and couldn't wait to get rid of it. A Honda can take a beating and keep going.

We have one and have had zero trouble out of it. We use it around the house and don’t mud ride. I plan on having it a long time.

Stay away from the Honda 400 AT models around the 2005 ish years.

420s are great

good rigs, but, if you load it down very much, you cant turn it around in a 40 acre field.

Pump your drum brake full of grease on day one. That eliminates a future issue.

Make sure for at least once every say 10 starts, you get it all the way up to operating temp. That keeps the o2 sensor from fouling.

If I were buying one, I'd dielectric every electrical connection from the start. Honda uses a non marine connection on their harnesses. No idea why.

Most places will sell them for 4799 this time of year.

Not my choice, but it's probably the best in the sub 5k price point.

I have had one for 2 seasons now. I live it and wish I had bought one way sooner. I use it for work days and hunting at the deer lease and for neighborhood rides the rest of the year.

I pull a ground hog max with it without problems some days and have had 2 feet and a passenger other days. The instructions say no alcohol, no riders, use a helmet, and no drugs. Ignore all that and it's a lot of fun...

Had mine since 2012. Only issue I ever had was messing up the axle and boots when I slammed into a booskio. It literally sat up for 6 months when I was laid up with a broken hip. Put fresh fuel and it never missed a step. I have a foot shift so I can’t speak on the ES or anything. EFI is nice, but I think they automatically come with that now.

It basically lives in this shite. It’s light enough to move it yourself to get it out of a jam and has power to spin 28” mudzillas. It will bog down if I’m in 3rd gear and going through slop though. Not bad enough to want to get rid of it.

As far as reliability you can’t go wrong with a Honda.

I have a 2018 Foreman 500 with manual foot shift, straight rear axle.

I use it to spray grass around poles on the farm and when I drain my catfish ponds to spray rotenone for trash fish in the puddles before pumping them up and restocking. It regularly has to go through foot deep mud/water with a full 35 gal sprayer and a 275lb man on it. 28” midlites.

No issues with it so far

Back when we used to ride we all went out and bought large, high dollar atv’s. All of us except one who bought the 420 Rancher.

Every single one of ours broke, had issues, or couldn’t hang in certain conditions.

That little 420 never broke down, never got stuck, never ever anything. Made us all regret our purchases.

How do you think trash fish are getting into the ponds? I ask because we keep draining a pond to get trash fish out but a few years later they return. I'm thinking the neighbor kids are catching shite out of the creek and putting them in there.

We run the 420s on the farm checking cattle. We have a 14 model with 21,000 miles and still going strong, and a 17 model with 6,000 miles. Only real issue we find, is the racks are made of thin tubing and tend to crack up. But we are not using them like a normal person. We carry way more load than recommended, fighting through mud and rough cattle tracked pastures, etc. as far as the motors, change the oil regularly and we get at least 30k out of em.

Well most of the time all that’s left is larger catfish, sometimes a few shad or break or mudcat. I have to kill it 100% off because even larger catfish will eat the newly hatched catfish so to get a good survival there must be nothing in the pond.

Birds can drop trash fish in there. Does your pond drain ever go under water on the ditch side? Does it have an overflow that can go under after a heavy rain? Also when you drained the pond to get rid of trash fish did you dry it up all the way?

Even a little puddle left will leave trash fish in it if not completely dry or poisoned. Or they can swim back through the drain if it goes under water while opened. Even if you have a screen small mud cat or bream, shad, etc will get through it
