Lol. January 2021. This might actually push sales of their service. Along with Parks, 30 Rock, etc. But all these services will eventually cost more than cable.

Yeah I knew this day would come. All the services are gonna be more expensive than cable as predicted by many.

I could honestly see all of this backfiring... I just don't see enough people being interested enough to pay $xx.xx for just the Office with a splash of Parks. I mean, I know it's the most watched show on Netflix and all, but I just don't see this falling out in their favor.
(think DCUniverse... or even to a lesser extent - Hulu, DCUniverse is treading water already, and Hulu is only propped up because at this point Disney is in control and too big to fail)
ETA: we are also about to have a 2nd "major" contender in the ring... Disney+ - that makes 2 Major contenders, 3 tier 2 contenders (HBO, Showtime, Hulu), and then services like NBC, WB, Amazon, and DC Universe, etc. I think most people will have Disney+ and Netflix, and continue to cycle through the HBOs, Showtimes, and Hulu's of the world... Amazon will continue to exist because of 2 day shipping - but how much are people going to be willing to pay for even more? Especially during times when people might want sports on ESPN.

Some cord cutters already are paying more than cable.
I remember the WB trying to go to a streaming network and it didn't really take hold. They were just too far ahead of their time. Soon, every network will be trying to launch its own platform.

I should be done with Parks and Rec by then.

Just because someone makes a streaming service doesn’t mean you have to have it.
The beauty of streaming services are the month to month terms and the depth of choices, all on demand.
I don’t know why people try to stack all the services out there and compare it to cable, when 99.99 percent of people won’t have every service, most likely will limit themselves to 2 maybe 3. And if someone is holding your show hostage, cancel for a month and watch that show and then switch back.
Still a fraction of the cost with much more options than cable.

The NBC thing could work if they include their back catalogue. The Office, Friends, Seinfeld, old SNL, etc could have enough people signing up to make it worthwhile. I know hulu still has an exclusive deal with Seinfeld and I think Friends is still on netflix a little while longer but if NBC wants to lock those up when they become available they could do alright.

This is why Blu Ray’s and DVDs will never just go away. It’s going to be much easier just to own shows like this on DVD and pay for NEEDED services like Disney+

It will definitely backfire. This fragmentation will eventually lead right back to a reconsolidation because these other services just won't have the audience to monetize certain shows like Netflix could.

Horrible news. Now it’ll be on a service that will likely have a copious amount of ads.

The worst part is that price is only half the battle. Idc if every service is $2, if I have to shuffle between 11 apps for my content, I’m going to be disengaged. I currently have Internet ($65), Hulu live ($50) and Netflix (12.99) at about $127 a month, without contracts and I’m happy but I avoid additional services like CBS all access and prime on principle even though they have shows I’m interested in.

I see more value in Disney+ and Hulu or Amazon.

Just glad I got the DVD’s last Christmas for the commentaries. Only show I have on DVD but honestly it’s without a doubt my desert island entertainment.
