Best Central A/C unit

What company has the best Central a/c unit. I currently have a Carrier about 8 years old, have had the compressor replaced and the coil/evaporator changed also. Just checking to see for the next time I have to change out my system.

2 years ago during a renovation my Trane unit unexpectedly went out. Same unit from when we first bought our house. It was 16 years old when it quit , though I’m a little skeptical about why it died cause we had just had the unit’s location moved as part of the renovation and it died a mere 2-3 weeks later.
Nevertheless... Replaced it with another Trane 5 ton. Very happy with it. And it cools better than old unit did. Has no problem achieving whatever desired temperature during hottest time of day during summer whereas the older model worked its arse off to maintain 74° during summer midday.
Next time around , I’ll likely get two units (possibly two 3 tons) if we move or build in the future.

Nobody really has the best. They all use the same parts.
You need to decide what features you want. Some are more quiet than others. Some are more efficient. Some have better controls or communicating controls. Some are better at zoning control. Some are better at staging and some are better with modulating systems. Some have more protection for the coil.
What features do you want?

Our first Lennox AC/furnace lasted over 20 years and was still going when I decided to replace it after it acted up a time or two one summer. Replaced it with another Lennox, and it has worked well.
Trane has a great rep, and I shopped them, but the price was way higher.
Reading about the different brands, I saw over and over that the biggest issues were (1) quality of the installation job and (2) don't buy a unit with too much tonnage for the house.

And This
Focus on finding a quality installer and a company that will size the unit based on a manual J heat load calculation, even when replacing an existing unit, and takes your existing duct work into consideration. Duct work must matched to the unit. Experienced HVAC techs say the biggest issue they see with problem units is that the HVAC is over-sized and ducts under-sized.
There are those that will advise to avoid Goodman, and others that will say the problem with Goodman is not their equipment per se but that they sell their equipment to anyone (as opposed to only authorized HVAC dealers) so it’s not uncommon to see a higher frequency of poor quality installs with Goodman equipment hence its poorer reputation.
But all the HVAC manufacturers provide standard 10 year warranty on parts (not labor), some models 12 years, when the unit is registered following installation.

Have a Goodman here. Been going strong for 16+ years for me minus 2 capacitors and low freon this last go round.
One question though - after 16 years is it common to lose some level of freon?

We have an American Standard. It's been solid.

You've got another 12 years to squeeze out of yours.
We just replaced the units at our house that were 22 years old with Lennox. 2 stage up stairs and single stage downstairs. Pretty damn happy with them, so far. 2 stage is a pretty nice feature.

Truthfully, go for the one with the best current warranty.

No, it's a complete closed system. If you are low, you have a leak in the system.
Running Rudd systems. Had installed a 16 seer system in my guest house and it's so quite, one can't hear it run.

Everything I read the average expected life of a HVAC is 13-15 years so you’ve exceeded that. My first unit lasted 14 years (Trane) before needing replacement and my current unit is about that old (Tappan=Nordyne) so I’m planning for replacement now.
Sure it’s possible to be losing some Freon (refrigerant) after 16 years - you have an old system so leakage would not be unexpected. I required 1 pound of R-22 for the first time in about 13 years last July. So far all good, and my unit was inspected/serviced 3 weeks ago and refrigerant pressures were OK.

I don't know if there is a 'best'. Many of them are made by the same manufacturer. Each a/c company typically installs only a couple brands. I'd be more concerned about the features you want and the company you want servicing your equipment in the future.
Lennox, Armstrong, Allied (same manufacturer)
Rheem, Ruud (same manufacturer)
Goodman, Amana (same manufacturer)
Trane, American Standard (same manufacturer)

Unless it is a mini split, that Daiken is probably made by Goodman for residential. Goodman, Daikan, and Amana would be different trims by the same manufacturer.

It’s a DX17VS.
Not a mini split, but I have a hard time believing this one is same as a Goodman.
17 Seer variable speed unit.

When I bought my present house in 92 it had only a couple window units. I put in a 4 ton Heil unit and it worked fine, and was still working when I replaced it with a Trane unit this spring.
I didn't want to chance it going out in the summer months and be waiting days or weeks to have it replaced. I figured I was pushing my luck with 27 years out of that original unit.
The Trane is a quieter unit and more efficient. I've got no complaints, but it is a brand new unit, so I shouldn't have any for a long time, if at all.

Why is it hard to believe it is made by GOodman? Daiken has never done split residential systems in the USA before the purchase if i remember right. Goodman is the largest producer in the USA if I remember right. Daiken bought them for a reason.
Have no hesitations, goodman makes good stuff. Just make sure the install is done right.
EDIT: I can't find DX17VS anywhere on their site. Is that the correct model?

it's called a Daikan fit.
LINK
and i say that b/c it's the compact model and Goodman doesn't make something like this.
