Roy and Guillory have spots no matter what. It means nothing for them other than if they go elsewhere, we still have guys that can play rather than nothing at all

Combination of these two. Berry is a true NT and unless he has a break out senior year I think he looks elsewhere should Guillory commit. These borderline guys are always told that their offer is contingent on their development, and as long as you're honest and give them time there typically aren't too many hard feelings.
As much as Taylor is saying the right things you have to be apprehensive of what happens if and when Bama offers. He's not just from Bama, he plays at a Bama pipeline and is a lifelong fan. Would love to keep him, and he may respect that LSU gave him a committable offer while they slow played him, but has to be that asterisk on the board by his name.
Bryant and Clowney are OLBs in our system. Jackson is an OT.
That means you only have 5 true DL commits across 3 positions, with two of those guys having question marks to sign. Plenty of room still to add Roy and Guillory.

Ali Gaye is 6'6 270. He's athletic and some things you can't teach. They see something in this kid.
He had 8 tackles in his second year in JUCO last year...just saying, but if we add Guillory and Roy, Gaye better show out in JUCO this year to stay in the class to be a 2 to play 2 guy from JUCO especially.
I see no way we end up with 7 DL signings if both Guillory and Roy come on board.

If LSU gets both Roy and Guillory I think Gaye and Berry are "processed".

who knows, another what if post...just wait it out and see what happens.

Vol has already alluded to the "churning" of the bottom of the class. Numbers always find a way to work themselves out.

He's a THREE year juco guy? You sure about that? So he's only got 1 year of eligibility left?

You might as well consider Bryant and Clooney as OLB’s. They will be standing up and never in a stance across from the OLine. They are like Chaisson, Thornton, etc...

I think there is attrition to get down to 5-6 but we have plenty of room to take 7 and need to load up given the expected departures.
I was just playing with the class calculator and if you only remove Berry and add Roy/Guillory you're at 21 with every position besides RB and TE represented.
At that point I'd think they'd go one more OT in hopefully Dumervil, land one RB out of Evans/Milton/Johnson, interior OL in Van Pran or an OG, and still have one scholly to add another S, OL, or TE. That's IF Berry is the only attrition.

I don't think Gaye is going anywhere. They see something in him they really like. The observations on him remind me a lot of how people talked about Brockers. He showed up to LSU at 6'6 255, redshirted and broke out as a RS soph after adding 40 lbs. Gaye's frame is very similar and he's up to 270 after weighing 250 out of highschool, and looks like he could add more good weight.

He was a 2017 high school recruit, went to JUCO in 2017 but didn't play (Redshirt year), played last year in 2018, will play again this year in 2019.
So he's 2 to play 2. Cannot redshirt like Moore did this past season.

The plan is to sign 5-6 DL. We dont have room for 7 unless you neglect another position of need like RB, S, OL.

Brockers was a 4* recruit. The only similarity is their size.
A Juco with only 2 years of eligibility is always expendable.

Agreed. Numbers are such that not enough room for 7 DL.
I think the # will be 5...possibly 6.
Roy
Guillory
Lee
Jenkins
Taylor* (flip candidate imo)
Gay
Berry (odd man out if Guillory commits...which I expect)

Bryant and Clowney project as OLBs. Jackson may be an OT. Roy and Guillory are priorities. They will be in the class if they want in.

According to who? You lose Lawrence, Fehoko, Logan, and probably Shelvin this year. Ferrell and Thomas will both be draft eligible and while longshots you never really know. I don't think they end up actually taking 7 as I spelled out this year but it wouldn't be shocking either. We only signed two last year, it's by far the biggest need in the class.
RB is not a position of need. They want one but will not just take a body. Milton and Evans are long shots, and Johnson seems like he might be getting tired of getting slow played. Maybe they take the Lee kid from florida but I don't think they get much farther down the board before they just write off RB for next year.
S is a need but with Toles on board, a couple versatile guys like Burns and Johnson, and Hampton making it to campus the need isn't as great. I think they swing for the fences with Alford or Ransom and if they don't get one of those two then they probably don't take another true S.
OL is a definite need, but as I laid out about you could still use three more schollies potentially without a ton of shuffling. Dumervil, Van Pran, and another interior guy could all fit pretty comfortably with a large DL class.

Never said Gaye was a 4 star recruit. The size comparison was exactly the one I made. They have very similar frames and athleticism, which is why I believe the coaches offered.

What do you mean by this? LSU will be hurting for DL in 2020. If anything we should be looking harder at JUCO.

We play with three down linemen, which will not include these two:
I bet this guy ends up on the OL
quote:
Alec Bryant WDE Pearland, TX (Perhaps could be a LB)
6-3 230 4 stars
Demon Clowney DE Baltimore, MD
6-5 225 4 stars

quote:
Jordan Berry DT Harbor City, CA
6-3 288 3 stars

You make room for them. Is this really a question? At worst case they have more attrition on the team or tell a current commit to look elsewhere. You have 7 for insurance right now in case those guys go somewhere else.
