Pretty cool. I know New Orleans and all of Louisiana is gonna rally around Zion in a way we never could for AD. Drew Brees is in the twilight of his career. I think Zion is gonna take his place as the face of New Orleans professional sports. Thankfully with Griffin and Langdon running things, I feel confident that we will win enough that he will hopefully play his entire career here. Exciting times sons.

That was pretty sweet. There is no reason the Pelicans cannot be embraced by the city like the saints. If Zion has more of a personality than the wet blanket that was AD, then the city will rally around this franchise.

That was stupid. What was the message here? We eat crawfish, we got wet, we listen to music, and we're happy to get Zion. No shite.

a lot of these same things were said when AD was drafted. it remains to be seen if the majority of the city, outside of our niche fanbase, will embrace the new team or not

Some of y'all are complaining about a happy fluff piece? Because it's too much about crawfish?

This is like posting a pic of a beautiful woman on the OT.

man i wish every puff piece on new orleans didnt start with "laissez les bon temps rouler". i have never in my life heard anyone in new orleans use that phrase in conversation. it is most definitely NOT "what we always say"

fire that shite into the sun

The city can claim love of its teams but only really spends money on winners. The "Saints embrace" has only occurred the last 18 or so years. We tasted some winning with early Haslet years, it fell apart (and attendance dropped) and theyve been a sustained winner since Katrina. People don't care about Brees because he has a great smile and donates money to city efforts, he's beloved because he wins.

If AD had won, he'd have been loved, but he couldn't carry a team beyond a one series win that was largely on the back of Jrue Holiday.

But it's disingenuous to not say the city had the same hope about AD as we do now about Zion. When the Hornets won the 2012 draft lottery, men cried and hailed AD as a franchise savior. That event also pushed ticked sales and hope to highs.

Marketing an athlete/sports team in New Orleans is so easy. All you have to do is convince your players to at least pretend they love New Orleans, even if they don’t. The city goes nuts over people who love the city.

Step One: hold a press conference and say how you always wanted to play in New Orleans and that you grew up a Saints fan. Even if you’re from Seattle. Say you can’t wait to get to know the city and be a part of something special here.

Step Two: do some parades and public appearances. Do lots of autographs and pictures and talk about how much you love everybody here.

Step Three: in season, make sure you say how you want to represent New Orleans and put a winner on the court for the people of this town. Every interview.

Even if you don’t really mean it, you will be a legend in NOLA. An ounce of lip service equals a ton of support in New Orleans.

The problem is, so many players can’t or won’t even give that ounce. And they wonder why they’re miserable. Looking at you, AD, you unmarketable toad.

It was ok at best, basically a typical ESPN piece on New Orleans. It had all the stereotypical New Orleans cliches, "House of the Rising Sun" instrumental music, swamps, crawfish, Hurricane Katrina (which happened almost fifteen years ago), white trash cajuns, etc.

ETA: "We will rise!!"

They should’ve interviewed some locals that hang out on neutral ground of Claiborne playing dominos, not the 5 year locals who gentrified the Irish Channel.
