re: Off-duty cop shot and killed a non-verbal, intellectually disabled man in a Cali Costco

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this, but I worked with people with mental disabilities for 10 years. That picture is either the best picture ever of the non verbal guy or he is not completely non verbal. My guess is the guy doesn't speak well and is lower IQ but that doesn't mean he can't use basic communication. Also as said, where were his parents? My guess is they were the worst kind of helicopter parents and over sympathized their son's disabilities and let him do whatever they hell he wanted.
Also, this "cop" was with his family shopping off duty. What kind of POS editor allows his profession to have anything to do with this "story"?

I can think of plenty. Especially if my kid is involved.

Not saying the cop was right or wrong, if you’ve never been around mentally disabled people ( whatever the name for it now is) things you’d do to normal folks don’t work
To a degree absolutely. But if he was very low functioning and Non verbal the cop would have absolutely known this. Now its very possible this guy assaulted the cops kids over the kids taking the last box of candy bars or touching him or something. So the cop was "protecting" his own kids.
Very hard to say. I agree though the guy was either in total assault mode or the shooter here had no reason to pull his weapon.

I'm gonna have to disagree.
I don't carry, but if I did, and if some large man suddenly attacks me and my child and I find myself concerned for mine and/or my child's life, I would use my weapon.
Now the fact that the parents were also shot tells me something else went down.
Security footage and witnesses should clear this up. I doubt the cop is 100% innocent in this.

Well, I’m glad to know it was a cop for 2 reasons
1. More than likely his training would have kicked in and shooting was the last resort.
2. His shooting was atleast on target.

Its also very common for low IQ and non verbals to use some sort of physical lashing out to show their emotions. This guy that was shot probably had a functioning level of a kid under 10 possibly 4, 6, or 8 year old with a body of a 25 year old. You get a guy that's 250 lbs with the brain of a 4 year old and they can very easily hurt people.

I was thinking the same exact thing

I know 17.5 ways to kill you with a spork. I am the weapon bruh

This does not compute

I love how quickly you morons get pissed off over this shite. There is clearly much more to the story that hasn’t been released.

I mean, the police released a statement and I think it's pretty relevant that in a potentially controversial shooting where there is already a narrative blaming the "victim" for initiation, the shooter was a police officer. It also helps to explain why the shooter was armed in California.
This will be an interesting one to watch. FWIW the cousin's statement seems pretty reasonable. Claims they're a pro-police family, etc. Anyone could say such things, obviously, but the average police shooting victim's family usually doesn't.

I'll hold judgement until I read a non CNN and/or non Fox article.

But was it? Shoots at 1 guy, hits 3 people total.

Trashy cop violates a citizens 5th Amendment rights and executes said citizen without a trail? What else is new?
Posted on 6/17/19 at 8:49 am to GetCocky11
Not sure about the photo below. The witness statements I read said the attacker had a Mohawk haircut. Is that type of style what most “nonverbals” choose? Or will this be one of those deals where the media releases a years old photo that shows an Angel when all of the current photo show a thug?

The mom from the Mall of America, and the rest of America, disagrees with that blanket statement.
Do you think this guy would have deserved a bullet to the head to prevent throwing a kid off a balcony?
The small detail about the officer holding a toddler stands out to me. If i'm attacked by a Slingblade looking mfer while holding a child, my free hand is grabbing a weapon if it's available.

Why not read both and meet in the middle? That’s probably the truth

I mean, it seems most likely that the disabled guy flipped out to some extent and that the parents got in the way. I think we can all see both sides of that scenario - both how the cop might hit the parents and how the parents might pretty naturally try and protect the disabled son or get in the way of the cop responding with gunfire.

I prefer to get news from the AP or CBS. They are less biased than those two networks.
