I wonder what would happen to me if I killed a un-armed person in CostCo?

You most likely don't have the same "reasonable" fears as a police officer.

Hestrin said the incident happened "very fast," with Sanchez firing less than four seconds after he was struck. The officer believed he had been shot and that he was firing at an active shooter, officials said during a Wednesday press conference, citing witnesses who heard him say he had been shot and saw him reach to the back of his head multiple times to look for blood.

Believing his life and his son's life were in "immediate danger," Winslow has said, Sanchez fired his handgun. Ten rounds were fired, officials said Wednesday. Four bullets struck Kenneth French, and each parent was hit once and wounded. The LAPD is conducting an administrative inquiry into whether Sanchez followed the department's policies. The officer is on paid administrative leave, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Yikes. I guess legally he's fine, but I would hope he's no longer a cop after the LAPD finishes their investigation. How he thinks he got shot is bizarre and he shoots the guy in 4 seconds. I wouldn't want that hot head protecting and serving.

Doesn’t see a gun, hear a gun, but can formulate that this is an active shooter in 4 seconds? Wow.

Has video been released?
The only video I've seen is one that is a surveillance camera from across the store. I'm sure they have other video, but aren't releasing it.

I don't know whether this guy should be charged with a crime or not
But if we can't agree on some general level that getting hit on the back of the head at Costco probably isn't justification for blasting off 10 rounds and shooting three people, two of which were not doing anything wrong, we've got a societal problem here

Where do we meet for the riot?

Based purely on the video in your link... it appears dad is trying to restrain the son, and is shot first? They say the son was in the striped shirt and other gentleman crumples before him, consistent with being shot first. If that is what happened, not ok with it... but obviously a very blurry snippet.

You can’t see shite from the video. It looks like the dad is restraining the son and then the guy runs up from out of the picture and shoots them. Is anyone seeing something different?

Bad situation
But if you have a person that decides to randomly get violent due to mental illness then at some point something bad will happen

Yeah he was off his meds. Still don't think that's a proportional response though.
My only issue is that a police officer gets hit in the back of the head, thinks it was a gunshot, and fires his weapon within 4 seconds.
This and the drunk Dallas idiot who shot the guy in his own place don't really help the image of police officers in this country.

Agree but when you think you are protecting your kids I can see it happening

From what he thought was gunfire.
And one hit him in the back of the head.
And he wasn't dead.
This guy doesn't sound too bright.

From the story told and the video it looks like the mental guy hit the cop then his dad pulls him away. Then cop runs up and shoots them both.
The dad pulling the mental son away should have been enough to diffuse the situation.
