There’s a guy reading this that manages El Cid for a living and is laughing his arse off that you think he’d rather be in NOLA.

Swing and a miss. Not even close. I have yet to drive a BR road worried that my wheel will break off the axle.

The traffic backs up at Veterans on I-10 worse than almost anything in BR.

Almost.

Traffic worse than Nola

Yes. The biggest traffic clusterfricks are mid sized metros (or former mid sized, now large metros) that are experiencing growth without enough infrastructure improvements. That's why Knoxville, Baton Rouge, Chattanooga are struggling with traffic and declining places like Memphis and New Orleans aren't.

50 years ago, New Orleans had 650,000 residents. Places like St. Louis, New Orleans, and Detroit will struggle less with traffic than metros that are currently at their peak population.

Crime as bad as Nola
Crime is bad, but it's not as bad as NOLA - and it's largely limited to one of two very violent zip codes in north Baton Rouge.

Roads as bad as Nola (Essen is the worst road in the South)
100% false. I've broken suspension parts on roads in Lakeview. Essen is mirror smooth by comparison to most NOLA roads. Have you ever actually been to New Orleans?

Politics as bad as Nola
Unless you are talking about Chicago, this is always false.

It's a side effect of losing half your population over 50 years.

New Orleans has under-utilized infrastructure built out in the mid 20th century that they can't maintain now.

Baton Rouge has too much demand for existing infrastructure (particularly highway infrastructure) and limited means to improve it.

Two massively different problems. Managing a decline is extremely delicate. On the flip side, we are long past the days where the federal government shovels money into highways and bridges. Both cities are fricked.

My life revolves around family, work and the outdoors. It's a fine town for all three.

I'm sorry it is miserable for you, but if you have decent means, you can live perfectly fine in BR.
