Paul Manieri was a good coach at Air Force and Norte Dame. He was handed the keys to one of the premier programs in all of baseball, a program that in many ways, runs itself because of facilities, history and most importantly, it’s fans and the money they generate for it. I credit him for providing a spark to get out of the lull smoke had let it fall to with our last championship. But my appreciation for him ends there.

Old man, we are in 2019, not 1999.

There are other programs in the SEC and around the country that are starting to do it better and more consistently. I think it’s time we go after one of them.

So it's actually harder to win these days, than it was 20 years ago, because there are more programs able to compete? No kidding.

The same Oregon State that just went 2 and que in their home regional? LOL

You clowns are actually making the point that it's harder for programs to always be 100 percent successful, every year.

You realize this years team was not even top ten quality... right... just look at the record and how inconsistent they were..... plus ZERO batters that struck fear into opposing teams....

Everyone wants to get hung up on the "muh preseason #1 ranking" - that was based on POTENTIAL, involving a fully healthy team. Which we never, ever had.

I've said this before. There were more than a few NFL "experts" who picked Atlanta to win the NFC in 2018. What happened? They were injured to start and never realized their potential. It happens.

I mean, 2 weeks ago, the "experts" pegged UCLA as the top team in the country. And they will be watching the CWS on the sofa.

Link to “always be 100% successful” argument us clowns made? If OSU doesn’t work for you, how about Vandy and Arkansas? Direct counter argument to OP reference to how competitive SEC is.

Every thread during every loss, or every thread during every time LSU falls behind in a game.

Vandy

4 CWS appearances - all since 2011, also missed 3 times from 2016-18. LSU has been 3 times since 2011. Also missed 3 times 2010-2012.

Arkansas - 4 times since 2011.

So both programs have made 1 more appearance this decade than LSU. Wow, stop the presses.

Well, and I mean this as politely as I possibly can, you are a fricking idiot if you think this. This team loses waaaaaaaaaaaay too much.

They will be fine next year and I expect an Omaha trip.

He may not be the problem but he is the one that can solve the problems we've had for a long time which in and of itself makes him the biggest problem.

And a lot of his in game coaching sucks and his motivational skills are piss poor.

I agree with the over achieving this year but I don’t see the team next year being better.

Even with the injuries, with heads up base running, we would be in Omaha.

To make it next season, the pitchers have to be healthy and live up to their hype. The freshmen will have to play like veterans. Very iffy.

Houston, lets reel things back in. Regarding LSU ONLY:

What about the undeniable trend of Paul leading LSU to 20+ losses in the regular season? I looked this up a while back. I think only once has LSU gone to Omaha with 20+ losses....and that was last year.

This is a trend, coupled with the fact that without Nolan Cain, Paul had some horrific recruiting classes. Now, because of that lack of will to recruit, Paul has chosen to use one of his paid asst spots on a guy that recruits like a mad man, but can do nothing else.

At what point do you accept the numbers, and realize that Paul has Some self-created issues?

What years did that happen? Before Cain was recruiting coordinator Cannizaro was the RC.

It is somewhat similar but:

#1 Cal’s NC is more recent
#2 Cal’s winning % at Uk is way better than PM’s both in conference and overall
#3 basketball is single elimination and they don’t get to host tournament games at Rupp
#4 when they go out their fans melt even harder than ours do

Russian, i happened to have looked this up and posted it in another thread. Before you ask, these numbers are not all from the same source. Baseball class rankings are not the easiest things to find.

quote:

Paul got to LSU for the 2007 season. #1 ranked recruiting class. I do not have the time to gather all rankings, as they were not readily available. 2008 - ? 2009 - ? 2010 - #1 2011 - 15 2012 - 12 2013 - 14 2014 - 24 2015 - 68 2016 - 7 2017 - 16. Cain Arrives. 2018 - 2 2019 - 2

Sorry but no. LSU has not had a #68 recruiting class since there’s been ranking of classes.

ETA: Regarding that #68 recruiting class in 2015....
quote:

LSU is No. 7 in the 2015 Collegiate Baseball magazine recruiting rankings released on Tuesday, marking the eighth time in nine years the Tigers are in the Top 10 of the survey. LSU was No. 1 in the recruiting rankings in 2007, 2010 and 2014; No. 3 in 2009; No. 4 in 2012; No. 7 in 2011 and No. 10 in 2013.
