I get the concerns MS has, they are the same issues the South LA fishermen have as well. This is harming their business, and when anyone has their business harmed, they tend to fight back.

But WTF other options do we have? Closing the BCS isn't a realistic option.

Given that this could end up being a huge environmental disaster, I expect other options to be introduced in the future, but I don't know what they would be. At any rate, nothing will be permanent.

Yeah, lets potentially kill a few hundred thousand people and destroy billions of dollars worth of property to protect a few oyster fisherman. Yeah, that sounds like. good idea

You aren't very bright are you?

This is about compensation not preventing the opening.

They decided to make their living on something highly dependent on human altering of mother nature. This is pretty much the only downfall to their industry.

Feel bad for them, but this is part of what they do. This is a risk they have to accept.

Unless they are willing to pay a lot more for their lease on good years.

You are missing the point and this has zero to do with LA other than location.

This is about ACE causing harm and the need to compensate those harmed.

If ACE decided tomorrow a breach was needed in LA and no compensation would be paid to those affected the attitude here would be very different.

I personally think it should remain open at all times but at the same time am capable of understanding the motivation of others.

What they need to do is go back and open all of the distributaries that they blocked off in the early 1900s.

Not sure about all of them as there were quite a few, but certainly the majority.

Not only that, they also need to take into account the fresh water that drains in their own area.

Just a few weeks ago, the Wolf River and a few others flooded sections the gulf coast that drain into the sound. That would be like Grand Isle complaining about the salinity of Barataria Bay after a heavy rain over the basin.

The wolf river is a drop in the bucket compared to what the ACOE failed policies have done. This is about fixing it going forward. It used to be manageable but they are opening that thing every year now and is year hundreds of turtles and dolphins are washing ashore dead. We need to manage the Mississippi River better all the way up the river.

It’s also important to note that 90% of the fish in the gulf are hatched in the Mississippi sound so the same way y’all water policy affects us in the end it will affect everybody as well

Easy fix.... just remove the bays and leave that section of the levee out at the spillway. when the river gets high, water will just go into the spillway. no need to get approval to open it.....

See how Mississippi likes that... water year round every year....

I think he was talking about the ACOE

I'd like to think we could come up with some smarter, "top" scientists than the Corps of Engineers.

Pressure building in MS to sue to stop Bonnet Carre opening

Besides the anecdotal evidence regarding "Muh Dolphins", is there any tangible evidence the bonnet Carre damages the MS seafood industry?

I mean the damn thing opens damn near annually these days...
