If Joe Brady is the future, why are we recruiting pocket passers?

Joe Brady was specifically hired to modernize the offense by implementation of the RPO, so why aren't we recruiting dual threat quarterbacks to fit in his system? This isn't a knock on our current commits or even Brennan, but I thought RPO offenses are better with a quarterback that is a threat to run. Does this worry anyone else? At least Burrow is a threat to run, and Peter Parish may fit that role, but we have 2 pro style guys currently committed.

Is Brees a running qb or a pocket?

You do realize that RPO is referring to the running back running the ball and not exclusively the Qb?

You don’t need a scrambler to run RPO

Every offense works better with a running QB

But you can and people do run RPOs with pocket passers.

A few of those post RG III. Allot QBs we’re anywhere close to the athlete and the offense did fine.

QB doesn't have to be dual-threat to run the Spread/RPO. It does help if he can move well enough to be a run-threat once in a while.

We have been recruiting mobile QBs. How has that worked out for us? I think fans just want a Qb that can hit receivers more consistently then we have in the past

Nick Foles, who had a career resurgence running the RPO for the Eagles, is most definitely not a dual threat QB.

20 thumbs down lol. I thought it was a good question. Shame on me for thinking I didn't at least have a shot of getting reamed.

A very key skill for the RPO is the ability to freeze the defense with play action. Peyton Manning was great at this and he was absolutely no threat to run. It wasn't his threat of running that made it effective, it was his ability to make the correct read of handing it off or throwing.

So is TJ and Max. Don't get hung up on labels, just because a guy is labeled a "pocket passer" doesn't mean they are not a threat to run. I'd rather have a guy who is a better passer than someone who looks to run before remaining patient in the pocket. Sometimes with these duel threat guys they get one dimensional and are too quick to run and never develop the skills to be a better passer. I don't think LSU is converting to an all out option offense. Will probably develop a guy to drop back and pass then add in some RPO plays to keep the defense off balance. You don't really need a pure duel threat athletic QB to run the RPO offense. It's easier to take a drop back passer and teach them the RPO than take an RPO QB and teach them to drop back and pass.

RPO doesn’t necessarily mean the QB has to run. The run option can go to the RB
