re: Is getting Brogdon realistic ?

I thought this line of thought started with “AD is staying for a season to give things a try”.
If AD stays for a season, we don’t need Lopez or Niko at the 5 but getting a sharpshooting point would be a big boost to our chances.

it’s about brogdon
Niko ain’t coming back here nor should he

Another way to ask that question is how does Griffin want to build this team? And that answer changes based on whether AD is traded or stays.

Would be key IMO. Have his salary declining as AD and Jrue's figures are going up. Would help us stay under the tax line and keep the repeater clock from starting.

I don't think that there are any hard feelings there. Our season was over and we sent Niko to a contender. If we deal AD, I would love to have him back.

It's true though. Marc Gasol is overpaid. So is Serge Ibaka. Middleton will be starting next year. Regular season Iggy is vastly overpaid, Milsap is overpaid
But those teams don't regret any of those deals. They regret Tony Snell and Norman Powell. Portland regrets Meyers Leonard, and on and on and on
If you KNOW a guy can be a core piece, it's hard to overpay him to an extent he hurts your ability to be great. But the guy who makes real money that can't see the court when it matters - that kills you.

I guess I made the reference too obscure, the main inspiration of that post was the classic rap song Young Veterans.

Niko loved the city and the organization. He knew it was a business move and is probably pretty grateful about now. I wouldn't be at all shocked to see Niko back here on a reasonable deal.
He hated Chicago and has thrived in two small markets, maybe there's something to say for that.

I’d pay that for him for sure if we have to but I’m hoping we can get him for 4 years 75. That Averages a little over 18.5 a year. And you can sell him to on the idea of a larger role where he can have a chance to grow more as a player and work as more of a distributor here as well as seeing him being the exact type of player we want as a part of our 4 player nucleus. But he’d fit the team perfectly and seems like a great character guy. So if you gotta go 21 a year do it.

agree but there’s plenty of places he can go and get his bag.
he is exactly the kind of player you happily pay 12 for but not 20
love the dude but no

I’d be shocked if he came here on a reasonable deal. If he’s going to take a reasonable deal he should stay with the Bucks. But I wouldn’t be shocked if he came back here if the Pels wanted to pay him well.

typically I'd agree that New Orleans isn't an attractive situation for an NBA player. but my thought (along with my thoughts on promising Finch to be the coach in waiting) is that we don't know how attractive we could become with Jrue, Zion, and maybe even AD. but my guess is that we will begin to see a change in the perception of the organization towards the positive, thus giving us more opportunity for FA, coaches, etc
so instead of pigeon-holing ourselves while so much is in flux & the FO's reputation is changing, I'd wait to hand out large contracts, promise someone a head-coaching job, etc. caveat: unless you are absolutely, 100% certain about someone like Malcolm Brogdon or Chris Finch

I thought with having still pay 45mill combined to Bledsoe, Hill, and Snell next year, plus 25ish for Middleton, there is just no way to keep Brogdon for anything over what Bledsoe got (4/70). Not to mention I assume they will want to keep Lopez. That would also overlap 2 years into Giannis new supermax. Though I am sure they could always find ways to dump Snell and Hill.
Is this your guess on what it would take to get him specifically to NO or what it would take in general to get him from the Bucks?

I feel like a 1 year lineup of AD, Zion, Jrue, Brogdon and Okafor would be a very strong team.
One can only hope it would be enough to make AD consider taking the Supermax.

Especially if you can get him on a decreasing deal, so that we overpay in the beginning and underpay when Zion is developed towards the end. Something similar to Aaron Gordon’s contract.

I've never put 2 and 2 together but I think there is something to be said for international guys being the core of smaller markets.

that would be a potential lineup where I would say yes, okafor could be played starter minutes, as long as he ups his effort
