To be fair, those pics of Barry O he's doing the normal way, the guy who got banned was doing it upside down, which I learned today was racist.
You have been sucked into a societal troll that 4chan is so good at. While one MIGHT be able to draw some connections to members of the "white power movement" prior to the 4chan trolling it really isn't clear if it meant anything beyond "OK".
The chances the fan in question did it as some display of his allegiance with white power is very low, it is however very likely (near 100%) that he was trolling. This is the point I probably diverge from the typical OTer. I have no issue with them banning him from trolling.
On the majority of online communities (forums), trolls get the ban hammer pretty quickly, even on TD in extreme examples. While people may argue about it I see it as necessary except in the case of clear and well known generally benign trolls like el Gaucho.
If I owned a sports franchise I would not want my broadcasts to become a vehicle for trolls and I would exercise my right to exclude a troll from my stadium.
Seeing it as racists is naive, banning a troll is good for the Cubs and arguable society as a whole.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This guy is the worst executive the Cubs have had in the likes of guys like Larry Himes (so bad that Greg Maddux turned down more money after 92 to sign with the Braves and caused then face of the franchise Ryne Sandberg into retirement), Andy McPhail (more like McFail), and P.K. Wrigley (worst. owner. ever.)
He's a holdover from the previous Tribune and later Zell ownership. The man is such a wimp and a colossal idiot yet the Ricketts family kept him and tried to reassure fans that he wouldn't touch baseball operations. It's funny as they're using this to cover up the bad PR they're getting with calling up Addison Russell when they don't really need him anyway.
I wish that assclown would get fired eventually. He has no business working in the front office of any major league ballclub.

Exactly. I was being sarcastic when I said today I learned it was racist. We all know it wasnt.

Couldn’t agree more. Just let the announcer do his job. The childish behavior of the fan is not needed.

Wasn't this whole thing debunked? I read somewhere that the ok signal actually being the signal for White Supremacists was false. But idk for sure.
In any way, I dont see how you can ban someone for life for a hand gesture. If the guy was harassing his neighbors, being a dixk, calling folks the N word, then by all means, ban him. Or maybe if they dug into the guy's past and were able to verify that he is indeed a true white supremacist. Then sure ban the mess out of him.
Somehow I feel this wasn't the case. Management looks like they saw the picture, saw the memes on internet of claiming that hand signal was racist, and proceeded to jump the gun.

It’s a fricking kid game
Of course Klan kids will play that game.

I wouldn't say a connection with white supremacy has been completely debunked since there are pictures of avowed white supremacists using it that predate the 4chan trolls. That said there is no question that "society" became cognizant of it as a result of the 4chan trolls. It certainly does not have the ubiquitousness of well known white power "symbols" like three sets of parentheses enclosing text. It is not unusual for the white power movement to use rather anodyne symbols as seen with 14 and 88. Is an e-commerce website with prices that all end in 88 a white power enterprise or just a Chinese guy's website that is looking for some luck in sales.
Again I am near 100% certain this was a simple troll, but as I mentioned before I am fine with trolls being banned from stadiums, if not stadiums will be filled with troll banners and signs that go beyond trolling the opposing team.

Idiotic by the cubs
It being Chicago and all, I bet the guy apologized for being accidentally racist and agreed with the ruling

This guy was literally kicked out of Wrigley Field for being white. Ironically in the most segregated city in the country.

They did that fan a favor.

Is it? It seems like most every city is segregated, especially those in the North.

It was. Then the retards over at 4chan decided that they would troll the media by trying to say it was a white power hand gesture in 2017. Then the retards in the white power movement started to use it. So now the lines are blurry.
