If it's allowed by the IRS, then it's not cheating. It's using the tax code as written.
Now if you want to argue the morality on minimizing your tax exposure, feel free to frame and make your argument. Although, I believe that is a losing battle given the bloated nature of the federal government.

You think it’s savvy when a poor person receives a few thousand dollars back on a tax return and contributes to generational poverty.

I worked in IT for many years. At different points, there was information that I could legally view in the course of my job, but I would have been put in jail if I shared it.
