in other news, the guy still thinks China pays them.
also, i wonder if this means the negotiations aren't going so well after all these delays

For 10 months, China has been paying Tariffs to the USA of 25% on 50 Billion Dollars of High Tech, and 10% on 200 Billion Dollars of other goods. These payments are partially responsible for our great economic results. The 10% will go up to 25% on Friday.

Economy is balls to the wall presently. What's the downside?

Should be no big deal since Dumb Joe says China isn’t an economic power or rival

Why you choose to melt over something that barely if at all affects your pocketbook is bizarre to me
During times of economic expansion is exactly when you should do something like this, because you can afford a little more costs

Doesn't seem to have an adverse effect on the economy. Now you can say that the economy would be doing even better without the tariffs but that is speculation.

There are lots of actual taxes on Americans too. Why are tariffs worse than regular taxes?

You have to look longer term. The state of the American economy and Chinese economy at present gives us a unique opportunity to balance trade long term with minimum impact at the retail point of sale. It also brings manufacturing back onshore to reduce dependence on China tomorrow. Great move here.

Interesting that this coincides with Kim's temper tantrum. I think this goes deeper than the economics.

Tariffs baby hit em hard! Also lower the fed rate and watch America soar and China crash. Trust DJT!

Damn...
It’s as if trump is actually caring about the unfair trade situation that China has taken advantage of for all these years.

So let's put it all in perspective..
1- More Americans have jobs that more than offset the tariff costs to them in one day of work.
2- Wage growth has offset in a days work the cost of the tariffs
3- Trump cut taxes that completely wipe out the cost of the Tariffs making points 1 and 2 really mute.
4- All the while it's not hurting the US citizen, but it is hurting China who has over extended themselves and we will win due to it... thus leveling the playing field and the economy will once again soar.
Literally, all you have in your complaint is it's a tax to the American people that they don't see because they have more money in their pockets WITH THEM than they did over the past 10 years without them...

China doesn't release a lot of pure data but it's estimated that right now their debt is around 300% of their GDP. What isn't speculation though is their government is pushing banks to do more lending to stave off economic woes that are largely being brought on by this trade war. TL;DR: the longer this goes on and the more Trump tightens the tariff screws, the more likely it will be that China finally gives in.
The Chinese aren't stupid though, they are probably banking on Trump not winning re-election so they are waiting on signing anything meaningful until they have a better idea which way the 2020 election will go. The problem for them is they run a high risk of the impact coming in faster than they planned (ie: prior to 2020).

That's like saying the pain of getting a Tetanus shot is the downside to not getting Tetanus after stepping on a rusty nail.

A deal is supposed to be done by Friday.
Trump is likely just reminding them he is standing by his deadline of increasing the already announced tariffs, should the Chinese not make an agreement by end of the week.
And no, the data is clearly showing the tariffs are hurting the Chinese economy much worse than they are ours, but good game.

Our Anti Trumper didn't finish what Trump stated...
So they are trying to back out of the deal or wiggle...

That's one thing I think a lot of people have a hard time grasping about Trump: he doesn't bluff. If he says "this deal means that x will happen if you don't do y by date z" then he's not going to accept any excuses as to why you didn't hold up your end of the deal. This is very un-politician-like.

Ridiculous analogy
Who is ultimately paying for these tariffs?
