Baws born before 1985; what uses did your family have for paper sacks?

In the days before plastic grocery bags...

My family used them in the kitchen for non-food trash and dad would freeze Cawtawba worms in them for fishing.

It seems like the bags were always around...I miss them.

When I was a wee lad, I didn’t think I could stand up without holding onto something. My Grandfather would stand me up in a paper sack and I would hold the edge and stand there. Apparently I was easily fooled as a child.

Mom battered hundreds of pounds of crappie in a paper bag.

Whole foods bags are my cooking trash bags. It's so much easier to set one on the counter and drop in stuff as I chop as opposed to lugging over the trash can.

There was a big stack under the kitchen sink. I don't know WTF anybody used them for.

Frying fish. Used them to put corn meal/fish fry in and shook the fish to coat them before dropping into the oil.
Worked great for chicken/etc with flour, also.

I would slide a pan of fried seafood into a large one to keep it warm and non-soggy.

Pretty much all the same stuff one would use a plastic sack for, plus some arts and crafts here and there.
