Been on youtube watching Omaha Beach win the Arkansas Derby, Roadster win the Santa Anita Derby,, and Maximum Security run wire to wire in the Florida Derby.

Rounding out the top 5 in odds are Improbable and Game Winner a couple of Bob Baffert's horses who appear in the above races. Improbable ran 2nd to Omaha Beach in Arkansas, and Game Winner ran 2nd to Roadster at Santa Anita.

Louisiana Derby hasn't produced a contender since the 90's, so By My Standards at 7th best odds kinda trims the rest of the field out for me.

All of the above races linked seemed slow. I don't know if it's an off year, or if some longshot will make a splash.

What are y'alls thoughts about the race or contenders?

I was leaning Omaha beach but if you go legit give me 50 to one on long range toddy that’s some sams club value as long as it’s not raining

He’ll get the distance, and he hates slop so u can throw the last race

I've really lost touch with racing the last several years. Not a big fan of how many of these animals are treated, I had family in the horse racing business as a youngster. But when you get up to the Derby level horses they get treated more like rock stars. But the actual races sure do still stir my blood.

Thanks for posting. I'll have to catch up on these to have an actual opinion

His move on the 2nd turn in the Arkansas Derby was impressive. Kind of a "Screw this slow pace, I got this..." when that's way too early for a lot of horses.

If Mike Smith can position him on the back stretch of the KY Derby to do that coming out of the last turn, I don't think another horse can beat him. That's a lot of "ifs" in a 20 horse field though.

Omaha Beach is going to run away with it.

u really got to throw the arkansas derby out. I was there that day and it was typhooning outside. half the horses in the race spit the bit out and wanted no part of the track. Omaha beach broke his maiden by 9 in the slop.

if it rains on derby day, anything more than 2 to 1 on Omaha beach is stealing money. and i like the horse, but i don't think he's going to win it if it's on a fast track

Any of the top ten can win this race...but the money will be made on the exotics. Omaha beach, game winner, max security on top keyed with a handfull of the longer shots will pay bigly. Favorites have won the last 3 or 4. Love this race from a betting angle. I have watched every prep and more work needs to be done after post positions are drawn.

i don't like maximum security in this race the more I look at it. he ise like a less talented bodemister. he's going to the lead. he's going to get burned out and those bums he beat down at gulfstream aren't even worth noting.

he's a good horse, but not a great one and will be a victim of pace.

one of omaha beach's strengths is that he's ratable. I'm not sure maximum security is.

In defense, I’ve been around plenty of claimers in my time that are also treated like rock stars. Are there some bad eggs? yes. But for the most part the people who work with these horses day in and day out are very attached to them

omaha beach likes to run out front. game winner would have caught him in the rebel stakes if it was 1 1/4 not 1 1/16. the baffert horses charge late and the distance will benefit them.

game winner won in november, he will do it again.

You are so obsessed with him

You just keep thinking the 1 1/4 was all he needed

I've got it narrowed down to five or six horses that I really think have a shot. From my recent Derby handicapping efforts, that means any one of the other 14 or 15 should probably win it.

That’s all you can do in a 20 horse field. Narrow it to 4 or 5

Am I the only nerd who watches the derby training session every morning?

He’s looked great all winter down here. I don’t love war front but I find myself loving his 2 derby shots this year.

I still wish they’d say exactly what happened coming out of the gate. Looked like his stifle slipped.

I tried watching a few times and couldn't make it out. He definitely stumbled about four steps out.
