Ceramic Coating for boats

Its been a few years since this has come out. Anyone have any experience with it? Good, bad, overrated? Turn your boat yellow? I've been wanting to pull the trigger, but I don't know anyone who has taking the plunge.

I'm having it put on my truck in early May. Guy that's doing it says it's a miracle worker for boats.

It's nice, but nowhere near what they claim if you use your boat regularly.
Speaking from experience on 2 boats that got top of the line coatings applied by experienced people. It is pretty cool for the first bit as cleaning is a breeze. But after about 6 months of cleaning with the magic soap and conditioner they provide, and it needs to be recoated again.
Several others have said the same thing. If you use your boat 3 times a year I'm sure it's great, but if you are constantly cleaning it because you use it often, it doesn't last. Just get it cleaned and waxed and roll with it.

Collinite 885 paste will get you pretty much the same results, have to be applied just as often, and you can do it yourself instead of having to light your wallet on fire to get it done.
Ceramic coating works, but with boats that are used often in saltwater, it is exactly as CP3 said.

My in law got it done. He’s been less than impressed. Said it definitely helps but not to the extent they sold him on it.

The only people you will hear saying it works as advertised are either:
A) the ones selling it
B) someone who spent a ton on it and wont admit they got conned

Thanks for the heads up guys. My boat is used every other weekend. It stays waxed and woody waxed at all times. And I keep it washed down as I fish as well. Sounds like it’s not worth the hype. I can buy a whole lot of wax and craft beer to drink while waxing instead of spending it on ceramic coat.

I’d imagine it holds up on cars way better, because your not walking and cleaning on hit nearly as hard.
Is there any difference in it holding up on the outside of the boat compare to the inside? Although I’m mostly wanted it for easy cleaning on the inside.

Outside holds up a little better.
Also, I have 0 input as to how it holds up on a truck. I would think it would be a little better though

Wonder how it would work if you rarely clean your boat? 18 year old bay boat gets cleaned after duck season and sprayed down the rest of the time. My boat would likely sink if I put wax on it!

It holds up on vehicles way better then boats. I do detailing on the side and can say I've had one of my old trucks done and my wifes old car was done, both beaded water for the duration we had them and stayed looking like new. I'm about to coat my truck and my wife's new car.
the key to proper coating is the prep work. it takes hours and hours of polishing and removing paint imperfections to be able to apply the coating on a perfect surface. if this is not done, then the coating will only last so long and it will not look good.
I laugh at these guys saying coatings last a lifetime..lol no they do not. you are lucky to get 3-5 year out of a coating on a car even if you take care of it with hand wash and reloading the coating with sprays.
If it were me id just wax my boat, that's what I do. I use collinite marine wax and it holds up great. I do the inside and outside of my boat. if anyone needs any advice or detailing done let me know.

Collinite 885 lasts me about a season on the top side and in the cockpit. It lasts about half a season on the parts of the hull above the water line. Not as long on below the water line. Running through really shallow water/mud doesn’t help.

Not to hijack, but I just bought a used truck (black) and it has a few Knicks and scratches. Would ceramic coating it help with those? I was thinking about doing it anyways, but was debating getting some type of paint touch up too

It would help rid the paint of swirls and scratches if they aren’t deep. As for paint knicks...no the coating will help future paint knicks from happening.
People often wonder why it’s so expensive to coat cars..it’s not the coating that takes a while. It’s the prep work to make the paint right.
