the key to proper coating is the prep work. it takes hours and hours of polishing and removing paint imperfections to be able to apply the coating on a perfect surface
Yep. The guy that’s doing mine said they average about 50 hours per vehicle in prep work and coating application. You need a true paint correction and everything has to be as perfect as can be before applying the coating. That’s what you’re paying for.
He actually called me and told me he had had a cancellation and I could bring my truck in today and have it back Friday evening. I opted for the 3 layer 7 year coating so we’ll see how it goes. I’ll post back later this week

Damn, how much does something like this run?

ALOT...
when I quote someone I have to see the vehicle first. more paint correction the price goes up. on a brand new vehicle it still takes hours and hours.
most companies do coatings and they start at 1k and go up from there.

Know any reputable installers in the NOLA area? I'm hesitant to Google reviews nowadays. I'll bring it to BR if needed, but if itll take 50 hours, itd make life easier being closer to home

I know the guys at dipnotiq (spelling) do a great job down that way.

The guy I'm going with (Byron Sealey) offered 3 different tiers
$1700 - 1 layer 3 year coating (Gtechniq)
$2000 - 2 layer 5 year coating (GTechniq)
$2300 - 3 layer 7 year coating (The Ceramic Company)
I was hesitant because I've never heard of The Ceramic Company, but it turns out they're a new company started by one of the head honchos from CeramicPro (probably the most famous coating brand). He wanted to modify the formula and CP wasn't about it, so he left and started TCC with his concoction.
Byron is a lot of $$$ compared to most other applicators but no other detailer gave me the same impression over the phone, and the others don't spend as much time on your vehicle. He said that it takes a solid 3-3.5 days, whereas almost everyone else I got quotes from turns it around in a day. Said he takes the rims out of the tires and fully cleans/coats, refinishes all plastic and chrome, interior and leather get their own special coatings, etc etc. This dude is OCD af and that's the kind of person I want working on my stuff He's worked for Ferrari, Lambo, and all these hot rod shops I've never heard of, so I'd imagine he must know a thing or two. Call and talk to him
Byron with Timesaver - (337) 326-9790
Only issue is he's in Lafayette, but I worked something out for the meantime.

Go see Alex at Louque's Exotechs in Destrehan. He's the only other detailer that Byron spoke highly of, but he's not a fan of the coating Alex uses (Opticoat). Alex quoted me $900-1200 with a 1-day turnaround depending on how much prep work your vehicle requires. He also does the paint protective films, but they're absurdly expensive.

One of the 2 boats I previoulsy mentioned had 5 coats of ceramic pro. It didn't last a full year.
Just food for thought.

doing some reading, it seems like it's just a waste on boats. im not sure it matters what coating you use, saltwater will eat that shite up

Works best on paint so great for autos/trucks. Not convinced it works that great on boats. Sounds like if the boat is new and gelcoat perfect and perfectly prepared it works great but older boats not always a great result.

Collinite 885 paste will get you pretty much the same results
This is what i use. I use the hull cleaner when car soap wont remove a stain and the wax i use 2-3 times a year. $25 total for both bottles and they last a year.
The key is to keep it waxed and out of the sun and dont use bleach or dawn. The more it sits in the sun the more you need to wax it. Its harder to catch up when you get behind on the waxing. Just stay on top of it. It takes 2 hours to wax my boat in and out. It helps that the boat stays in my shop but keeping it waxed will do what you are asking. No need for $5k worth of ceramic stuff

Here’s a few pics of mine with the collinite wax, same stuff blue moons and sea pickle use
Here’s a few of my truck and coated car
Mirror finish
Heres my wife’s old car with coating that was well over a year old
There’s a place for coatings and it’s on cars for sure
The boats look just as good with standard wax, the collinite way is cheap too like $20

How are you guys applying and removing your collinite? Do you do it all by hand?
