Never seen that one. I'm using collonite insulators paste wax on my boat. It holds up great but it's a mega pita to apply. Its tick tick

Had mine done 2 years ago by Geaux Preaux and it was a waste of money. Going back to hand waxing it myself. My boat gets used often and spends 8-9 months of the year on Grand Isle so it gets its share of exposure to salt. It was pretty when he finished but it’s pretty when I’m done waxing it also.

I'm four years in and my boat looks like new. You have to maintain it to keep in tip-top shape, but I haven't had to wax it in 4 years, so now I've broken even on the expense plus some.

How do you “maintain it” so that you don’t have to wax it? Just curious.

bluemoons or whodat, I want to make sure I am getting the right items. Do these look correct? If so, when would you use a red pad or a blue pad?

Dual Action Backing Plate

Red Waxing pad for applying wax

Blue fine finish pad for applying wax

Orange cutting pad for applying cleaner

Microfiber terry towel for removing cleaner and wax

All looks good to me. IMO the red and blue LC pads are kind of interchangeable when it comes to gelcoat. I have both and use whichever one is clean at the time when applying Collinite. With clearcoat on vehicles, I always try to use the softest pad possible, so I typically try to wax with the blue pad. Splitting hairs though.

If you got some change in your pocket, go ahead and buy a 3" backing plate with some 3.5" pads too. Totally unnecessary but it helps for the hard to reach places like under the steering wheel, in between cupholders, etc. I normally just apply product to those areas by hand, but you can never have too many tools .

Thanks. On a side note, regarding vehicles, do you let the wax dry or do you wipe it off like you do on the boat. I have always let the wax dry on vehicle.

It really just depends on the product. Some are better to let dry, and others can be taken off before drying. I used to do Collinite 845 insulator followed by P21S Carnauba. I would remove the 845 before drying, but always let the P21S dry. I've also used products in the past like Klasse All in One that require application to the point of hardly seeing any product at all, then removal of the leftover product with a microfiber towel.
