Is Captain Marvel a Mary Sue?

She doesn’t really have to go through a struggle; she’s just duped by the Kree. Once she “figures out who she is,” she can fly through spaceships and blow them up.
Thoughts?

Captain Marvel is amazing.

Just out of curiosity, why did the whole "Mary Sue" thing start popping up so much on entertainment boards lately? I know it's not a new term, but I don't remember ever seeing it this much.

Do you believe she will later be portrayed as too overconfident like several other characters have been shown. That seems to be the primary flaw of many of the characters.

Yep. If she steps into end game and saves the day it will ruin years of good work by the marvel folks.
The entire Captain Marvel Movie was lame. It seemed like she was sceaming girl power every 5 minutes.
If you want to make a real movie that empowers women without an agenda, take a look at Kill Bill.
The plot carried women through that movie, not an agenda.

By definition no.
Mary Sue isn't just a powerful character with no flaws, or a single flaw designed to keep them kinda human.
They are author inserts of themselves into perfect characters. Wish fulfillment really.
Wes Crusher is seen as one because some people saw him as Roddenberry thinking of himself as the kid that saves the day all the time.

The good I’m hoping that comes from the captain marvel movie is I hope that they finally now feel comfortable opening the universe up to the true heavyweights in the marvel universe without nerfing them like they did dr strange, Scarlet witch, vision, etc...
Marvel has some badass beings in the universe but I think the mcu is afraid to take that step because they would have trouble humanizing them as someone the audience can relate to
So maybe if they want to make captain marvel the center of the universe and they amp up her powers a bit from the comic book, they will feel comfortable bringing cosmic beings into play if they are phasing out the older avengers

In all honesty, how long is Brie Larson gonna trigger people? Her haters had the Chris Hemsworth thing to latch on to but now that it’s come out stuff was just a joke from the jump it’s back to looking for something to hate her for?

I enjoyed Captain Marvel. It was an enjoyable movie. I probably wouldn't put it as a top 10 MCU movie, but I would rewatch. The M/TV boardis proof people look for things to be offended at

Kind of. Only because she can do things like hack computer equipment and fly planes she's never flown before.
