Interested to know how all of the workers managed to get off of that massive building/roof and avoid injury.
It was like 6:30 in the evening, and the French aren't known for their long work hours.

You’re not wrong. However there are also people out there who think everything is a shadowy conspiracy so there is no point in reasoning.
Terrorism was the given cause within minutes or hours of the Bastile Day attacks a few years ago, the Christmas market attack, and the other terrorist incidents that primarily occurred in 2015-16 like the Bataclan killings.

Lady on CBSN saying unconfirmed reports that one of the retangular towers is on fire. Probably the interior
shite, if true, this thing is spreading like a California wildfire.

scientists to this day still are not completely sure how the roof structure was built.
It will be tough to replicate
And that's a freaking wooden roof that's lasted almost 900 years.
You can't replace that.
It's a great part of one of the greatest architectural structures.

i honestly dont know where they hold the relics at the cathedral. i know they present them on the first friday of each month and on each friday during lent. so they probably werent on site, or if they were, they were definitely being held in some kind of safe that i would assume is fire proof

So sad. Got to go last year and truly a remarkable sight. One of the most beautiful things ive ever seen. Such a sad day.

Did I just hear correctly on the CBSN stream that it held the crown of thorns and a nail from the crucifixion of Jesus there?
Obviously priceless relics. I cant imagine.
dang I wish I'd known that, I went there back in December and I had no idea those were there. We walked in and just kinda looked around that main sanctuary area which was still cool.

im sure it wasnt all of them, but there is a relics room when you walk in on the right side of the church on the bottom level. I will see if I can get some pictures to load.

witness on ABC News says he doesn't see any evidence of fire in the bell towers
Posted on 4/15/19 at 2:08 pm to TigerBait1971
Reports on nbc that the fire has spread to one of the two front towers

I didn't know it was such a small area.

Pretty crazy to think it survived 2 invasions during WWII but went down due to a possible construction incident

St. Sulpice and St. Denis were both torched inside the last month.
I guess there will be more to come.
The French government has owned all the churches for the last 200 years. Anti-Clericalism is still big in France and has been since the Revolution.

News is reporting that firefighters are going inside trying to save what they can as far as artwork, and I would assume relics, etc.

It was likely due to construction work, but that would be a great cover for an arsonist
