NWS should come up with a less confusing system than ‘tornado watch’ and ‘tornado warning’

Let’s use a pair of very similar sounding and appearing terms to describe a life or death situation.
Watch implies the tornado is out there to be seen IMO. Which apparently is not what they mean.

I just ignore both of them. The odds of getting hit are very low and if you do it was your time to go.

This. I just put it in God's hands and trust in the Lord.

Warning means tornado
Watch means likelihood of a tornado is there.
ETA : you dumb

Used to a warning meant a tornado had been sighted. If you were in the path of one shite was about to get real. Now they're radar indicated and may or may not materialize

The fact that this always has to be explained to people demonstrates that it isn’t a good system

It’s not that hard to figure out

It's not really that hard to understand. Watch generally means conditions very favorable for formation and possible touchdown. Warning generally means tornado on the ground.

Wait till he learns there's also a tornado emergency.

Who in the hell doesn't know the difference between a watch and a warning?

I think what you’re experiencing now is a downvote warning instead of a watch

I bet you lots of average people can’t tell you correctly without looking it up

I’m confused by many things. This is not one of them.

I agree with the OP. This has always seems very dumb, and the fact they constantly have to tell us what the terms mean demonstrates they are poor terms. Go with something more intuitive like
Tornado Potential
Tornado Sighted or Tornado Confirmed
Tornado Potential
Tornado Sighted or Tornado Confirmed

I’ve never understood how people can get so confused over a tornado watch and warning. Warning means there is a tornado. Watch means there is a chance that a tornado can occur in the area

I don’t have a problem with the difference between warning and watch. I just don’t know what I am supposed to do about it really since I don’t have a storm cellar or basement to run and hide in. With South Louisiana’s water table being what it is, most people would probably refer to them as indoor swimming pools.

No no no you dolt.
Watch means “watch out for that tornado coming”
And warning means “let me warn you about a tornado that may or may not be coming”

I never knew this was an issue. Never heard of anyone being confused by this. There's two options, how can you frick that up and not understand. If you don't understand this concept, you're truly an idiot.
