I’ve been in O&G long enough to know that fighting will get you an automatic helo ride home and never being asked back on any of that operator’s rigs. I’m not a fricking idiot and you’re not going to fool me or get me with whatever nonsense you’re trying to perpetuate. If someone wanted to fight me on location onshore or offshore on a rig I would get my arse beat gladly and with a smile on my face in order to not get run off.
That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be waiting for the motherfricker back on land; but that’s a moot point because I’m not fighting anyone for any reason.

I’m not a ROV pilot, I don’t actually fly the ROVs, I support them from surface and make any repairs that may come up. I’m not a control room type of guy... yet.

hey django. I started out working offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico both shelf and deepwater. I've also worked drilling on land in both the US and Canada and finally offshore drilling overseas.
Now I've been put to pasture in an office job in Houston.

I would assume nothing. There’s hundreds of men on the rigs and every one, from the lowest roustabout to the OIM is rubbing one out I’m sure.

If you are doing ROV, Coil Tubing and other 3rd party jobs then just shoot the shite with the rig crew and don’t come off as a douche. That goes a long way.
Since you’ll be a 3rd party hand, learn as much as you can from other 3rd party hands not involved with what you’re doing and unique to offshore work.
I’ve worked in production on the shelf, barely knew shite. I was a mud engineer for Halliburton and now I fly helicopters for a major offshore carrier.
Deep water work is totally different than on land and shelf work. The pace is much slower, more controlled and generally safer.

I watched two roustabouts throw down behind the living quarters once on a jack-up rig. They had an audience but nobody ratted them out.
