When wireline rigs up, ask to help calibrate their sheave wheel. Your driller and toolpusher will know you mean business.

I have wireline and coil experience, and even though that isn’t my job, I definitely want to make connections with guys from other companies and see if they’ll let me participate a little bit, albeit in a very small ways I’m sure. I just want to show everyone that I’m eager to learn all the different aspects of the work and hope that down the road I might get an offer to do something a little more involved.

I didn’t do ROV onshore obviously. ROV is what I work with in my new position at a different company.

Good luck buddy. The good news is you won't get shot at. This is child's play. Make that money!

probably not going to happen, but they might let you sit in and watch/ ask questions. Most people stay in their lane.

Did you get the gig with Oceaneering? Aren’t you the poster that interviewed with them a while back?

Good luck, will you be on a boat or platform?

Wireline hands won’t deny somebody helping to calibrate their sheave. It can get tricky sometimes.

Have t been shot in almost a decade, so not too concerned on that front.

I took about a 60% pay cut from what I was making onshore just to achieve my dream of finally working offshore, so I’m doing everything I can to advance and get the experience I need to move up to offshore completions fluid engineering (I did completion fluids onshore) or working my way up to a production Operator at some point. I just want to make a good impression.

Just for laughs, tell everyone on the platform that you're gay and really missing your boyfriend.

I believe this is a production platform so I would assume the well has been completed and we’re just doing light we’ll intervention to increase productivity. We also have some BOP work to do as well.

I don’t expect to be turning wrenches on another company’s equipment but I just want to learn and talk to the guys and get a feel for what’s happening.

Do what you’re asked.
Be on time.
Be willing to work 15-18 shifts if asked.
Understand you’re the new guy out there and treat the guys with respect.
Be extra kind and courteous to the galley hands.
When it gets hot pour cold water on your wrists and back of your neck. (Those are heat points and will cool your body off quicker)
Oh and get a something to watch shows and movies in your bunk. Make sure and have headphones.

Don’t hold any bags over your head, no matter how strong you think you are.

In my limited experience while still training (dont go onsite once done training), people offshore expect you to do your job and that's it. All the bullshite was more land and low budget shelf work. Deepwater was pretty professional. Usually 2 to a room and 4 to a bathroom. Your bunkmate works the opposite tour, so you have room to yourself. Gym, galley with 24 hours of food/snacks. TV in your room. Not too shabby.

You're gonna have to fight someone. Make your peace with it, and resign yourself to the fact that it's going to happen. Not if but when. You won't win, and you'll be hurt in the process; however, a valiant effort will help earn you a measure of respect from the rest of the crew.

Sounds like there could be anything from a snubbing unit to a workover rig rigged up on the platform. Unless it's one of the old TLPs with a rig package.
