Tell everyone about Braxton’s success in travel ball and show a picture of the truck nuts on your F250

I don’t have a F-250 yet, I haven’t started making that kind of money yet; and truck nuts on a half-ton truck is exponentially more douchey. I also don’t have a child to brag about his travel ball... I would also never name my kid some bullshite name like Braxton.

I know what you're talking about. Redstick is pretty dead-on with his post. Go with that and good luck, stay safe.

Thanks bud, this isn’t anything new to me aside from the fact that it’s on water.

I’m more concerned about rookie mistakes that guys make and how to prevent them and what to look out for.

Go tell the company man he needs to shave his beard like the rest of you plebs. If he threatens to run you off, tell him your bags are already packed.

On a serious note, don’t act like you know more than you do. Pay attention, ask questions, get your hands dirty. Make friends with the Derrick man. They will know you are green, own it. Be patient, have a good attitude, and have a nice tolerance for crappy, typically unfunny jokes that break up the monotony of life offshore. And on a serious note, speak up if you see something unusual.

Definitely don’t write that the food sucks on your obs card because the day yours gets drawn to be read in front of the whole crew will be the day the entire galley shows up to the pre-tour.

When wireline rigs up, ask to help calibrate their sheave wheel. Your driller and toolpusher will know you mean business.

He needs to also make sure to get a sky hook and left handed crescent wrench to keep at all times.

We don’t need to be clean shaven. Thank God.

Good advice. I’ve been in the oilfield working on 8 years so I’m no stranger to all the bullshite and ball-breaking that happens; that’s kind of the least of my worries.

I’m more concerned with the big “no-no’s” on the platforms and what kind of small mistakes could get someone run off.

I also don’t have an issue with using Stop Work Authority if absolutely necessary.

I make sure my skyhooks, pipe stretchers, and buckets of A-I-R can be quickly located at all times.

Always look up before walking out a doghouse or the living quarters. There could be a crane overhead with a load anytime you walk out. That's one of the biggest differences between offshore and onshore.

Use handrails at all times. If the OIM catches you not using a handrail, that’s a quick trip home. PPE a big deal.

Learn your nautical terms....starboard, port, forward, aft, etc.

10-4. Good luck you will be fine with that experience. A lot more technology and professionals, much better planned operations if you are used to land stuff. It’s a different world, for the better.
