Sorry I'm fairly young but how did she constantly get elected in a conservative state? She had no resume going into congress. She was a god damn real estate agent. Also she was pro-choice, how did the evangelicals put up with this shite?

She was chairwoman of the energy committee in the senate

That helped her with oil interests

The fact that her name is Mary Landrieu and not Mary Smith didn’t hurt.

Only till min to late 2000s did this become a red state.

Pre Katrina we had blanco as governor, Landreneau and Breaux as senators and I this state voted for Clinton x2

Because LA had a lot of conservative Democrats (think conservative social values, liberal economic policy), a lot of blacks, and a lot of farmers (subsidies).

A lot of the conservative Democrats realizes what the Democratic Party became nationally and have begun to vote republican in senate and presidential elections.

But look at how they vote locally, it’s still the idea of what government can do for me

Cheating large 3 times.

Remember the video showing buses going to 5 polling places and all the people getting off and voting at all 5 places?

First elect didn't more people vote than on the rolls in one Parishes down New Orleans?

Woody was ahead by 50,000 votes with one Parish left to finish counting and low and behold that Parish won the elect for Mary. One of the highest voter turn out in the history of Louisiana up until that time.

I’m gonna show that David Vitter guy. Since he was with a prostitute I’ll pay 2 billion in taxes and allow Texas to make a killing off of our oilfield jobs. Republicans for Edwards!

Yep. Plus lousy opponents.

And 20-25 years ago, the Democrats were more socially libertarian instead of authoritarian left, and they also weren't rabid opponents of oil.

Kentucky was a blue state back then too. Changed with Gore/Kerry being anti tobacco and anti coal.

1) she WON the three elections, in part, by playing the role of a conservative democrat in all of her campaign advertising. Louisiana in the mid-1990s was quite comfortable electing conservative democrats, or perceived "conservative" ones. To be fair, she wasn't deranged-sounding or all that vitriolic, like Pelosi, Auntie Maxine, She-Jack, Harry Reid or Shumer. But she voted like them.

2) she LOST her final election after declaring in unambiguous language that, because Obama was less popular in LA, her state was racist. Thus sounding like the morons few reasonable "in the middle" want repping them.

So Louisiana practised "ballot harvesting" 20 years before Orange County, California perfected that technique.
