My FIL is living with us now, he's 83. It's not bad, but he's in decent health right now and can take care of himself.

Had a 3rd removed cousin and his family including his pops stay with me for a few months after katrina. It wasnt enjoyable but they were blood and you help out if you can. Had never even meet them before that.

Stop being an arse. They are family. Knock 10% off the rent you are charging them.

When I took an on call spot in Dallas/FtW I stayed with sis's family at their insistence. That lasted all of 2 weeks when the On Call became Dept. Manager and staying over would mean going from 1-2 nights/weeks to every day with me coming/going all hours of the night to tend to emergencies.

No none of us in the Baton Rouge area have ever done this before.

You're getting railed in this thread but I agree with you.

Yep. Had a brother live with me, MIL, ex-wife's sister and her mother. All of those situations sucked. Now I have a strict no relatives policy, no exceptions. Just me, the wife and the cat.

I haven't seen or talked to a brother in over 13 years. He has always had trouble in life..Through the grapevine I heard he is making his way to New Orleans. I have the feeling that he will show up on my doorstep. He has worn out his welcome with the rest of the family and "borrowed" money from all of us.

BIL stayed with us for a couple months while going through the twelve steps, he was homeless, he had no car or job so we also transported him everywhere. We eventually got him a bed in a sober house in town, he got a decent job he could walk to, he could walk to his AA meetings. We paid for the room, by the way.

He was doing great. For months, doing fantastic. But one day he woke up and said frick all this. Met a girl online and took off.

ETA, when he was staying with us, i wasnt allowed to drink in the house and that sucked. I still dont know why i agreed to it.

Lol, my brother in-law and sister in-law, who we don't speak with much because they are strange, have lived with her parents since they were married and have a 6 year old and a 5 year old and show no signs of moving out any time soon. He's definitely a beta. She runs that marriage.
