renewal classes for CCP...your thoughts

just spent 8 hrs of a beautiful day sitting thru the same damn class I’ve taken twice already, just to be able to renew my license. I don’t mind the training requirement but for fricks sake shouldn’t there be an “advanced” class or something else we can do other than hearing the same thing over and over again?
it just seems so pointless

Yeah frick that noise. I’m not wasting a good day on some stupid government class.
If you want to carry a pistol, carry one. Simple as that. Not a big deal

Just went through mine and said the same thing. Someone, should make a training session that is more advanced shooting that will meet the requirements for CCP renewal. Charge a lil bit more fire some more rounds and I think it would sell.

It is. It's something to make idiot anti-gunners feel better.
I'm glad I don't have to sit in them.

Recently in TN we were given the ability to get a lifetime carry.
But then again, our initial class was 2 days (I may be misremembering as it’s been 20yrs) but no follow up classes.

there’s an option now to renew for a lifetime permit but it’s 500 bucks.
I’m going to call Monday and see if there’s any continuing training requirements with that
i spent two of the eight hours today on firearm and cartridge types. I was about to claw an eyeball out

I am pretty sure you still need refresher every 5 years with the lifetime cert.

idk how it is in TN, but in LA, if you get a lifetime, you
a) still have to take renewal classes
b) you're disqualified from the NICS exemption when purchasing from FFL.
so, at least down here, absolutely DO NOT get lifetime.
OP, find a buddy that teaches the class that will sign off for you and throw him some cash.

3 times? I sat through it once and that was enough for me. Dont think I'll renew mine.

well frick that
thanks for the heads up
I wish I did know someone who teaches the class I’d surely have asked him to hook me up.
there should just be something like you have to read and acknowledge any new statutes since you renewed last and be done with it

I know of some who've done that. They took an advanced training class and were issued the basic and advanced certificate. The basic was used on the renewal.

Thank God that isn’t a requirement in Georgia. I’d never renew mine.

that would be great and I would have done that
but we need the instructors to advertise that so we can know about it. I searched for renewal type class options for a couple or hours and found nothing but the basic

I have a strange feeling that this is a planned upside for the folks who'd rather you and I not have firearms: Let's make it such a pain in the arse that many won't bother.
(And ftr, I can't fault you for not renewing.)

I actually found out WHILE getting it the first time. My instructor told us THAT day that we would have to go thrugh all day training again in 5 yrs. I told him right there that there was no way I would sit through another full day.
I’m no hand gun expert by any means but grew up hunting and with shotguns/rifles so knew plenty enough to take the pistol out of my truck and shove it in a concealed holster.

I don't like the renewal process as it currently is. OTOH, the current process was not set up by the instructors, but by legislators in consultation w/ various law enforcement agencies. There's no reason the renewal class can't be shortened. The renewal class should be an overview and update, not geared toward an applicant who's assumed to have no/limited knowledge of guns, as it currently is. The legislators should change the process. Many states don't even require the classroom component.

Just got mine in TN. 4 hours of class time then had to shoot 30 rounds.
Lifetime license. Done.
