Back in the day, there was very little land that was not hunted. Most land was privately owned and either hunted or poached lol. Now you have all these city and county parks, 1000s of acres of golf courses, 1000s of acres of private land that's not hunted because its either commercial or liberal, etc.
Waterfowl don't like to be shot, lol. They learn. I mean how many small industrial parks in po dunk towns have retention ponds? All of them. How many of them hold waterfowl? Almost all of them. Why fly to the lake 2 miles away and get shot when you can hang out in the parking lot in the heated water and being fed bread at lunch time by Nancy the secretary?

But yes there is and has been large scale "ice eaters", pumps, agitators, etc... and so forth put in by and with DU money to keep water open for waterfowl in Northern states. This is well documented and proven beyond a shadow of a doubt
I have actually never heard of or seen any documentation or proof. I would love for you to prove me wrong. It’s 2019 everything is either photographed or videod and I’ve yet to see a pic or video of this going on.

Why don't you show us the proof?

I just love these discussions.
some baws do; I don't
as did I
Yes, they are involved in a conspiracy. Thats all it is a

I had an awful duck season this year, but I chalked it up to weather and way too much water.

The nets are a bigger problem than the heated ponds.

The ice eater's being a conspiracy is laughable. You'd have to operate like 1,000 of them to make a noticeable difference. They keep open maybe like a swimming pool sized hole usually. I mean you are talking like 100 ducks.

. Honestly, I think that duck populations are just way down and have been going down since the early 2000’s and DU and Delta doesn’t want to admit this. Down numbers=less money
Ding ding ding. We have a winner, Been saying this for years. This past season was rock bottom....at least I hope it was rock bottom. Can’t get much worse.

I'm with you there. I bet they haven't sold 500 of those things in the US.

This is the best conspiracy theory I have ever heard of. Thank you for this. Can't wait to troll people with this while drinking.

Where have you been? DU has been using heated ponds and nets to screw us over for at least 20 years. Baton Rouge chapter went under same year the first nets went up, little known fact.

And yet you send them money to do it, if not you personally you do it through your tax dollars with WLF giving DU and others grants to support those efforts.

I’ll throw my $.02 in here.
It is sad that there are people that believe it is feasible, both financially and logistically to affect waterfowl migration on any scale using heaters and ice eaters.
Webfoot and I have hunted in Kansas and Oklahoma the last five years and have had successful hunts.
The vast acreage of harvested, DRY fields available to ducks and geese is phenomenal.
In five years we hunted in about 2” of snow 3 days and used an ice eater once. It’s laughable that anyone thinks these are a problem.
How many here understand the logistics necessary to use one?
Let alone the $100s of millions in equipment and manpower it would take to affect the numbers of birds being discussed.
This is lunacy, guys , to give any credence to this.

This sentence right here is the real reason for the changes in migration
25 years ago these fields would’ve been tilled up and the birds couldn’t get to the waste grain
Now the only way they can’t get to it is if snow covers it
Posted on 3/23/19 at 10:44 am to Midtiger farm
The lack of heavy snow makes it real easy for the birds to stay there.
The few times we’ve had a bad day, it was actually warm and the geese and ducks were in ponds and not in the dry fields where we set up.

You don't have to heat it just have a few circulation pumps
