Umm... what? Split? We are married. It all goes in one pot, so to speak. Is she your wife or just a rooomate?

No wonder divorce rate is so high. Me and my wife married young when we had nothing so we only have joint accounts. 14 years and going strong but then again we talked about everything before we got married. I buy what I want she buys what she wants and we put a set amount in savings after every pay check first.

My wife is a stay at home mom.

So there's no "splitting."

Mine is on company payroll. I sometimes have her transfer money to joint account.

We are older and on second marriage. No debt and financially secure. We have a joint checking account that pays for household stuff that we contribute to equally. Our cars and medical expenses are our own. Other monies are separate. Own the house equally. Have a prenup. At this stage, it’s a lot like a business venture. Works for us. No money issues or arguments.

About 50+ years ago my wife told me she was going to pack up and leave and get half of everything I owned.

I explained it to her that she currently got 100% of everything.

She's still here and she still gets it all.

We had a joint account in my first marriage, and it was fine (until we divorced). We have separate accounts in my current marriage, and it’s fine. Both ways have worked well.

My husband pays all the bills, except for car insurance (added him to my policy) and my car note, phone, etc. Since I moved into his house, everything was already established in his name. I transfer a set amount of money to him each month because I feel weird about him paying everything. He sticks “my” money into savings. I’m more of a spender, so I appreciate that he’s better at saving. We both buy groceries pretty equally, and run it past each other if we’re buying something more than a couple hundred.

We’ve only been married for 2 seconds, but we had this system for a few years before getting married and haven’t had any problems. Neither of us has a better standard of living than the other.

Yes. It’s making for an awkward wedding night.

If you're splitting expenses, you're not really married.
