I used the OT method of negotiating my last purchase. I said dealer I want this vehicle, and I'm only willing to pay treefiddy a month. You figure out the rest!

Not having a car payment is nearly always a better option as long as you do it correctly. Start by getting away from the mindset that you need a new car every three years.

Obviously if you view vehicles as a hobby like I do, things change.

$0 actual car payment.

Variable monthly payment for the unrelenting repairs required.

Never had a car/vehicle payment and I'm 57. Tractors, cars. trucks, MCs, etc.

Guess I'm lucky (but I paid cash for them from my earnings).

I have no idea because I have never payed it. 72 month loan with zero interest. I put down 20k for a down payment when I bought it. I have not paid anything on it since and that was 14 months ago. I have no idea what it will be.

I know a couple that got a brand new car every year for each- and have at least a -$1800 2 cars- payment, a home they really can't afford--- just to keep up with the Jones' and file bankruptcy every 7 years. They post their high end purses on facebook-then called me to say they were broke and were selling things on craigslist to eat. The high maintenance wife wonders why the husband divorced her.

Not sure if serious.

$0 - If I can't pay cash I can't afford it. That goes for all things except for house.

That is fine and dandy but I got my vehicle financed at 0% interest. Why would I give them all the money up front when I can keep it and let it make me money and just pay them $500 a month? In this scenario, it wouldn't be wise to pay it all in cash.

Depends on the car. ‘19 model of my vehicle is 60K+; I purchased the ‘18 model w/10K miles for 29K and it’s essentially the same car

No fricking chance unless something is laughably wrong with your car.

My insurance is north of $500 a month. (Pro tip- kids are expensive)

I think my wife's car payment is $625ish, but it's not that big of deal. I could see where that seems like a lot and it certainly would have been for me too, years ago. I've been driving the same car for 9 years and had no payment ever. My wife's previous car she drove for 8 years, with no payment for 4 years. Her new car sucks, I want to get rid of it, but I'm also itching for a new ride. Might end up with 2 payments for the first time in my life. Now, it's possible to buy both with no payment, but if something tragic happened, now my safety net is in the driveway. I prefer to have some wiggle room and will take the payments with a low interest rate.
