We have friends we visit all the time in that subdivision. When I lived near that area, my son and I would go and run/ride bikes in that subdivision as well.

I know exactly where this is and now I know who lives there. Damn shame.

Anyone riding through that hood should be going MUCH slower and not on the phone. Just seeing that video pisses me off.

That goes for any neighborhood, however when a kid just darts out into the road, some accidents aren't avoidable.

Watch the video, kid just darts out into the street.
Granted, perhaps the driver could have stopped a bit sooner, however, I lay the blame on the child in this case

I probably don't hit that kid.

There doesn't seem to be anything obstructing the view of the driveway. If you're paying attention to driving, you see the kid riding down the driveway.

That's why I hate driving. It's not fun if you're doing it right. I drive a car like I'm on a zx10 doing 130 on a shitty la rode.

Plenty of blame to go around. If you see a kid riding down a driveway toward the street just go ahead and assume they are going to go into the street. She should have been slowing by the time that kid crossed the sidewalk. Could have easily stopped.

I don’t see where, from the video, the Tahoe did anything wrong. On the other hand a Child Sevices investigation is warranted.

All the videos for several weeks prior to the accident may show the parents incouraged him riding in the street. That would be terrible.

I totally agree with your point that an association cannot allow something that would otherwise be unlawful. In the case of my neighborhood, there is language restricting the use of these vehicles on neighborhood streets as well as parking on the street both of which are not contrary to local laws and ordnances.

most HOAs prohibit motorized vehicles on their common ground / land nevermind the streets

Just watched it and that was tough to see. Driver looked like they were driving a little fast but it is so hard to tell in the these videos. This situation is my personal nightmare and biggest fear. Never in my life have I ever considered suicide but if that ever happened to me I just might do it. Even knowing I did everything right I don't know how I could live with myself knowing I was behind the wheel. I mean how do you cope with that?

Not sure if it could have possibly stopped in time. Maybe could have swerved.

I’ve been afraid that something like this could happen in my area. One is the streets are too busy and there are still kids playing around.

I agree

She had time. If you are looking at the road, you see movement in the driveway.

I'm not stating for a fact this could have been avoided.

But she didn't hit the brakes or even jerk the wheel.

I'm guessing she was not looking at the road. Either fricking with the radio, or more then likely on the phone.

I get the point of what you are saying, but there is no sidewalk on the side of the street the kid came from (which is part of the problem). The kid is “forced” to go into the street bc there’s no sidewalk on his side.

Weird setup on that street having a sidewalk on one side, but not the other.

That video is tough to watch as a parent.

The scary part to me is the length of time it took her to stop. I initially thought she was oblivious to her surroundings if it took her that long to stop going 25 mph. The more I have thought about it The initial impact may not have been avoidable. The child may have been coming in too fast and the driver may already be looking past that particular driveway.
I am judging her too quickly. It just seems like an awful long time to get stopped but things like this create a ton of confusion for the driver.

If the driver is actively scanning the road and paying attention, she would have easily seen the child and either swerved or braked. It sucks but that person was absolutely distracted driving and should be penalized.

On another note, police should be actively ticketing drivers texting. Everyone sees this happening all around them all the time, yet I know nobody that has gotten a ticket.

I live in a large subdivision in Prairieville on a strip. Speed limit is 25. People race through all the time. It pisses me off to no end.
