AD “playing” (going through the motions) is a risky strategy there Cotton.
That’s a foreign dynamic, like in football, playing to not get hurt, when the other team and at least some of AD’s teammates are playing to win.
Not wishing a real injury on AD, just pointing out this dynamic.
I do hope he never gets an NBA ring because of his 29 other teams comment.
Memphis or Atlanta? Really?

Maybe AD is playing 4-D chess and we just don’t see it.

I think he has problems playing 2D checkers.

KUSHNER PART 3: THE RECKONING
quote:
Kushner: Enough! Pelicans need to prove they have guts, bench Anthony Davis
quote:
Why is this so complicated? It only requires common sense and about 60 seconds inside the Smoothie King Center to know Davis shouldn’t be playing with the Pelicans anymore. Coaches don’t want it. Most teammates don’t want it. The wide majority of fans vocally don’t want it. Ending all of this angst doesn’t need an opinion poll though. It just requires some guts.

He’s right but we also don’t know what the NBA has told us behind closed doors.
Eating the fine is one thing. Either having picks explicitly taken or putting us on notice they are going to be fricking with us if we step out of line is a problem.
Whatever we do, we need an ironclad case to do it so that we reduce the blowback from sitting him.
Frankly, I think Conduct Unbecoming should be on the table if he keeps dicking around in games, leaving without permission, etc.
It’s a nuclear option but we are also close to the point where he will frick us on leverage no matter what so we wouldn’t have much to lose.

I like the way Gentry has managed him in these games we're forced to play him. If he's going to force his way into the lineup, good on Gentry for staggering his minutes and preventing him from getting into a rhythm.

This isn’t about logic, common sense or common ground. Everyone knows the correct answer, but no one is willing to take the necessary action to fix the problem.
I've supported Kushner's stand, I think it's good for the overall big picture, but the problem here isn't a lack of will. The facts and rules just aren't in the Pels favor. As long as AD wants to play and is willing to file a grievance over it, the Pels can't win. Not only are they going against the league's anti tanking stance, I don't see how arbitration would find in favor of the Pels over a healthy AD. The Pels reasoning for benching AD is for #businessreasons while support for AD being allowed to play are #basketballreasons.

You don't think they can make a basketball reasons argument centered around how much passion and effort their guys played with when he was down? Then, show the Memphis game or the game he scored 3 points and point to that as a basketball argument for why they legitimately think they are a better team without him?
I think that case could at least be made with legit proof and to me the burden of proof shouldnt be on the team to give 100% validative reasons for why they are choosing to do what they are doing.

No, because they aren't bringing the grievance, AD would be. AD will say he is being sat as unfair punishment for the trade demand. His evidence will be his long history of being a starter and All Star for the team. An arbitrator would look at this and ask the Pels why they think he shouldn't play and there answer will be be pretty lacking in terms of #basketballreasons.
Remember that what people want isn't AD being demoted and benched but being sat and not playing at all. You can probably make the case that wrecking chemistry is demotion worthy, but he's still a top 5 player so not playing him any minutes is hard to justify.

Can't speak for other fans, but I wanted West to get a ring. Paul, Baron Davis and now AD, will root against till the end of time and hope they never get a ring. West is the only one that handled things the right way.

ADs father and Rich Paul sat next to each other at the Lakers game last night.
Honestly frick this guy. If we can’t get Tatum or Zion I say we just keep him next season to frick him out of a year of his career.

1. Seems shady to see Lebron’s agent Rich Paul (hand over mouth for privacy at half court) whisper secrets at half time to ?@WindhorstESPN? who’s only job is to give public info
on LBJ + @Lakers?
2. Considering he’s sitting court side with Anthony Davis’s father multiple games. (His son isn’t in the building or in town). Feels like they’re actually tampering w @Lakers not other way around
3. And Rich Paul literally points back to Anthony Davis’s dad while whispering secrets to ?@WindhorstESPN? @Lakers in a tough spot here and it’s unfair to them

Yeah, it's pretty clear that the NBA has made it obvious that the option of just sitting him isn't on the table.

Is there ANY chance that this is how the Pelicans think they can best lose games when they discuss it behind closed doors?
Honestly, when AD was sitting, I thought that team was dangerous and was playing with the energy that could win regular season games. And when AD is back, I see several guys hesitating and deferring and not seemingly knowing what they should be doing.
Any way they reflected on it for a week, want to lose, and think that playing AD 20 minutes per game and having all the weirdness and lack of cohesion that happens as a result....That this is their method of tanking?

Jen Hale just confirmed the Pels would have draft picks taken away if they didn’t play AD. That is ridiculous.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but what if we play well for the rest of the year, AD learns a valuable lesson (don’t be a beta and let other people use you), and ends up re-signing? I don’t think it’ll happen, but just an interesting thought

He said today that he will not reconsider staying no matter what changes are made.

This build with AD is capped out unless they were to win the lottery. They just don't have enough talent to be more than a fringe playoff team in the crazy deep west. It's sad but ending things while Boston has a lot of stuff to trade us is probably best for everyone.

And this is a guard’s league. The Boston deal gives us a great chance to build around perimeter guys. It’s just so much fun watching AD.
