We Got This Covered

quote:

Just as Marvel is using the upcoming Disney Plus as an opportunity to flesh out its cinematic universe even further, the Star Wars franchise is also set to bring an assortment of new stories to the small screen. As it stands, the only two to get the official go-ahead are Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and the currently untitled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series focusing on Cassian Andor.

In a new report from HN Entertainment, however, it’s alleged that Lucasfilm is currently considering a few further spinoffs focusing on various other characters from franchise lore. One project, for instance, is said to cover the younger days of Leia Organa, but when it comes to relative newcomers of the series, two names singled out as potential stars of their own vehicles are Captain Phasma and Rose Tico.

Real fricking genius Kathleen Kennedy. New stories?! Maybe the Mandalorian (unless that’s focused on Boba Fett), but a Casian backstory? A Leia backstory? What the frick is this shite? Just get it over with and do the Dexter Jettster spin-off, you fricking hack.

And now onto the other two:

quote:

All the same, Phasma and Rose seem like an interesting pair to base entire shows around.

Yes Disney, I will accept your thousand dollar bribe to say this, and for two thousand I will do it without laughing.

quote:

In the case of Phasma, it was a common complaint towards The Last Jedi that the First Order Captain was killed off a little prematurely, and a solo series could serve as an ideal opportunity to give the villain a more developed arc.

So let’s make a tv show about a character that everyone complained about. Ratings killer! Genius.

quote:

As for Rose, while the heroine proved to be a major character in Rian Johnson’s film, you can expect much of the focus in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX to be on characters previously introduced in The Force Awakens such as Rey, Kylo, and Finn, meaning that the Sequel Trilogy may leave Kelly Marie Tran’s character with plenty of untapped potential.

The untapped potential of ruining even more plans through social justice and getting everyone killed. I can’t imagine how it would ever get cancelled after 3 episodes. Brilliant.

At this point, Kathleen Kennedy reminds me of when Mr Garrison was trying to get fired for being gay. I’m sure after The Last Jedi she went on a similar rant of “I shoved a gerbil up your arse and they want to give me a god damn medal!” She has to be trying to get fired and receive a golden parachute.

I understand why the film version of Phasma wouldn't garner any excitement, but her novel is a damn good story.

Rose though, I just don't get it... I don't get that at all. KK has to be the most tone-deaf person on earth if she believes this would be a good idea.

Furthermore, I don't really see the need for anything about Leia outside of the Forces of Destiny stuff they're already producing.

I have full faith in Filoni to make anything animated not terrible.

Instead of every minor character getting a spin off movie, they'll be getting be a series instead.

If they really want to make a solo story for a female character...Ahsoka Tano! There is so much potential there from when she left in Clone Wars, to resurfacing in Rebels.

I'm still holding out hope that she will appear in Episode IX, but who am I kidding

Star Wars Spinoff Shows For Captain Phasma

I think everybody is excited for the backstory of a character that was in a grand total of 4 scenes, with 2 of those scenes involving her being defeated in humiliating fashion without putting up much of a fight.

I want a Lor San Tekka spin-off. Because hey, he is just as interesting as the other charachters they forgot to develop, like Snoke and Phasma and Maz and Kyle Ren and whoever Benicio Del Toro played. Oh, and the chubby X-wing pilot, Snap Wexley! Can’t forget him either.

TLJ is awful. It was so bad. It went GOTs with the killing of charachters but forgot to make you care one way or the other about them. As for Episode IX, I just don’t care. I have no reason to.

Rose Tico

wait wait wait. They want to take the worst character from the worst moment of all the terrible moments of not just this shitty movie but the entire franchise and turn her into the start of a series?

Oh sweet baby Jesus this is good. This may even be better than Blackalicious Panther winning Best Picture!

Hmmm who can we dedicate a whole series on explaining their background that the fans would love?

How about Snoke!?!?

What? frick no. Let’s go with Captain Phasma and Rose!

I can understand a Captain Phasma show. The rest is completely uninteresting to me.

Major? I didn't think she was major and she definitely was not a popular character. That would be the equivalent of making a series following shia labeoufs awful character in Indy 4.

Phasma would be a case study for decades on how to set the stage for an interesting villain... and then completely flush that down the crapper. Except they did an even worse job with Snoke.

Lets look at Star Wars villains by the series.

The original OG series had: Jabba the Hutt, Bobba Fett, the Emperor, Grand Moff Tarkin and the gent that lands at the top of almost every movie villain list Darth Vader. That is a Murderer's Row of villains for three movies.

The prequels weren't as blessed: Darth Maul, Count Dooku, The Emperor, and, at the end Anakin. That isn't a shabby group of bad guys. All were presented as legitimate threats.

The new series, so far: Snoke (built up and then killed with ease), Captain Phasma (beaten easily and humiliated in just about every scene she's in), Darth Beiber Kylo Ren, General Hux (spends all of his scenes being the butt of jokes or delivering over the top, frothing at the mouth, speeches).

Only Ren is presented as anything remotely resembling a serious threat and its hard to buy into a bad guy who is shown to be far less able then the main hero from the first movie on.

The best thing to do with the new movies is finish them and then let Star Wars lay fallow for a few years. Do the TV show if you want too since it shouldn't be tainted.
