Not to mention that teachers are judged and graded on essentially their students ability to pass standardized tests. They’re not going to slow down and risk the rest of the class scoring approaching basic to catch one kid up.

Which school? I'm a product of private school and send my children to one. In places like St Tammany, the education usually isnt much better if at all. You're paying so your kid can have some religious influence in his life and avoid seeing fights.

This is a north shore private school. It’s all the same.
Sounds like you need to take your kid out of MQP or St Pete and shell out the money for Christ.

And so they don’t have to switch schools 4 times before they graduate.

The way I look at it, youre ultimately responsible for how little Chad504 turns out. If you get a good teacher along the way and he learns something, thats just lagniappe.

Just a general reply to all posts of thread.
I have zero problem with assuming responsibility for my kids. I have to try to keep up w day to day studies of 7 different subjects for my kid in a limited time w my kids during evenings among other social activities they may be involved in.
The issue is the only discussions teachers have is only what parents need to do more or better. It is never a discussion point of what the employed teacher can do better/ more/ different. Never.
Call them testing administrators and call the parents the teachers.
Anyone who calls me a shitty dad based off of a blow off steam post isn’t worth taking seriously.

You do realize a teacher can only do so much right? It only makes sense to suggest the parents spend some extra time with the kid on whatever he/she is struggling in.
Do you not know how to help your kid with what he/she is having trouble with?
It's one teacher with I guess, about 20 kids? If your kid can't learn at the pace the teacher is teaching then as a parent it is your responsibility to help. Or you can just let your kid fall behind and get 2 or 3 grades behind.. Like all the other kids who fall behind because they don't have parents who give a shite.

If you want to ensure that your kid gets an IEP, tutoring, and testing accommodations put them in public schools where all of that is state mandated.

To put it a lot nicer then most of the other posters here -
It is YOU that is failing.
Your child needs help..........frickING HELP THEM.

You provided no evidence so far that the teacher is doing a bad job.

oh well here’s a list of shite that you need to do at home and you need to do on weekends and you need to go on the computer and do these things. You need to further continue going out of your way for your Kids to learn their education.

Teachers are too busy fricking their students to have time for a straggler like your kid. This is 2019 man.

Your kid needs an eval. He/she isn’t catching on like the majority of the class.
Sucks to hear as a parent but the earlier you know the truth the earlier you can help him/her.

Good job waiting until February to talk to the teacher because your kid is behind.
Hire a tutor if your kid struggles in a subject.

You want a teacher to do your job for you? For your kid and the other 140 they teach during the day? Get a tutor if your kid is having problems, or you could try to help instead of ranting on the OT

Apparently you do. Your kid’s education isn’t solely the responsibility of the classroom teacher. Study upon study has shown parental support outside of the classroom is the number one thing that correlates with educational success. Teaching shouldn’t stop in the classroom.
Secondly, if you want one on one attention for your child then you either need to hire a tutor, seek after school tutoring, etc. But I have the sneaky suspicion you’d be one of those that would bitch about having to pick their kid up after school or about paying for a tutor anyway.

bullshite. If they’re to that point they’ve likely exhausted what they could in the classroom for your kid.

And those teachers likely have limited funding, limited administrative support, and limited time of their own to dedicate solely to your kid among (what I assume) is at least 6 periods of classes averaging about 30 kids a piece in a period.
Stop expecting them to do your job as a parent.

Sure it is. A teacher met with you and told you your child needs extra assistance. Have you hired a tutor yet? Inquired into extra school services?
What exactly did they ask you to do that’s such an atrocity that you’re clutching your pearls?

Yea I've never once told any of my students this and have made it clear if they come to me for help I'll give it. Sorry your child has a crappy one though
